How do you prepare defensively for an offense you’ve never seen, against skill players and a qb you have little to no film on. And kudos to O for keeping the starting QB a secret. Make it as hard for them as possible to figure out what we’re doing.

Everybody knows it's Burrow. I do agree that the lack of film is an advantage for us.

The problem is Richt isn't an idiot and knows Burrow will start. Meanwhile, we've cut his 1st team reps in half.

Hopefully that workload has shifted in recent weeks. It's been a hell of a ride but I'm ready to hunker down and root for 9.

This assumes that we have a viable offense. Otherwise, it will be a Miami advantage.

The Miami staff is not dumb. They know Burrow will start & that's who they are preparing for.

He's doing this to keep the media predictable.

Can someone please tell me the different prep one would do between Burrow and Brennan?

This isn’t an option qb vs a pocket passer people

They both bring a very similar style

you are aware this works both ways right?

an offense that has only just been installed in the last 4 months against skill players and linemen that are largely inexperienced isn't exactly forecast to come out humming.

You're absolutely right. However, I'm getting the impression that Burrow is a mostly physically developed QB at this point with a generally encompassing knowledge of the game. So, for him, the biggest advantage to getting first team reps is developing chemistry with his receivers and getting the finer points on our offense. You really can't have too much of that.

Regardless, I think he'll know the offense based on his intelligence and work ethic, and he will have learned plenty from sideline observation, which is as valuable a teaching tool from time to time as playing is. Coupled with his physical abilities, he should be close to a hundred percent ready by 9-2, even having split some reps.

A lot differently than you prepare to face a Les Miles 1970's offense.

Miami will probably concentrate on getting in the backfield (more blitzes and try to come right thru Cushenberry until he proves himself). If they do that successfully, they can mess up just about whatever play we run.

We don’t have a running game, so Miami will prepare for Steve-AIR.

Not to sound negative, but since when is it a "huge advantage", especially in the first game of the season, to have a new OC working with a new QB (especially one that missed spring practice), new running backs and new wide receivers?

I get that they have no game film, but we also have no game experience. This is why you hear coaches say that the biggest improvement of the season is from game 1 to game 2.

One QB weighs 219, the other 185.

Burrow at 219, is more of a mobile threat, than Brennan. Playing at OSU has also developed his awareness of knowing when to run.

His pre-snap motion of the RB, sent the LB (49), leaving the middle of the field wide open.

There are different blitzes and different screens. A screen to the outside will not burn the blitz of a middle linebacker, for example.

It's a limited advantage. If our offense doesn't get out to a lead in the first half, then the advantage is wasted. Most decent staffs will adjust at halftime.

Good play, wouldn’t give Burrow a lot of credit for it past executing it.
