I note that Tiger District shirts are not listed on there. They apparenlty know the rules and didn't use his name or number.

That is the important part.

It's not the word Honey Badger, it's the linking of that term to anything involved with an NCAA stu-dint ath-o-lete. NCAA is the only one able to ho out their likeness rights.

LSU really needs to get over themselves. Perhaps they should work on changing the god awful toonces logo or many of the other 1/2 arse projects around campus

You can print all of the "Honey Badger" products and apparel that you care to produce.

However, you CANNOT print "Honey Badger" products include:

1. the number 7?
2. ?TM7 (or any other likeness)
3. the name of an LSU player
4. the image of an LSU player
?5. LSU

i think i remember hearing someone say if LSU wanted to be a dick about it, they can claim purple and gold as theirs. seriously.

This isn't an LSU thing, it's an NCAA thing.

hmmmmm....you really need an intellectual property lawyer, but looking at the banned stuff, if you simply have a shirt that says "honey badger don't care"...they can't do anything...

this.

my shirt seems to be legal because it only says that with a pic of a honey badger. They are more talking about the ones with the #7 on it.

Geez people, that is about the likeness or image of TM, not the name Honey Badger.

Honey Badger blah blah blah with no image of TM - GOOD!

Honey Badger blah blah blah with an image or likeness of TM - Bad!

See?

I worked w/ the alumni association. We would raffle off memorabilia to support scholarships. But we couldn't sell/raffle anything w/ a currennt player's name, likeness, or autograph. On the LSU website, check the compliance tab for the restrictions on personal apppearance and autograph requests.

Is it BS? Absolutely. The networks use footage to promote upcoming games, and they sell advertising based largely on those ads.

The main issue is, as I read it, that the SCHOOL and the PLAYER can't make momey directly from the sale of likenesses. That's why the jerseys sold at the Union or online don't have names.

Again, complete BS, but hypothetically, what would the reaction be in The Rant if TM7 was declared ineligible because of a t-shirt? Odds are there would be calls to burn the seller at the stake.

I agree. However, the compliance office is just being cautious. It their job to keep LSU out of hot water with the NCAA.

They dont use current players name so they don't get sued by student athletes. Kind of like the video games etc.

By the way - the Alumni Association Memoribilia promo is awesome. I am getting a signed PP7 Jersey.

Awesome that those former players signed so much

Just to be clear, I was referring to CBS promoting the SEC CG using footage of TM7 and UGA QB Aaron Murray. Those are obviously current players.

Agree w/ you on the video games - I deleted that from my post because of SASS on the Rant (Short Attention Span Syndorme).

And you're right about the memorabilia. I have a #18 jersey signed by Mauck, Hester, Dickson, Murphy, and Taylor. Took me 2+ years to get them all.

I wonder if the university has contacted the zoo to restrict access to the honey badger exhibit yet.
