I'm usually impossible to offend, but this post (with the photo of Dak after he got attacked) is bush-league.

The guy got jumped by a bunch of punks and took a pretty good beating. Really not something to make fun of.

They are actually gonna knock his dick in the dirt this year. That's what we're gonna do differently. Not just gonna sit back and let him play tiddlywinks in the pocket.

Our DL could barely touch him last year. You rattle him early and often.

Alternate spying him with Adams and Beckwith. Also like a lot of safety blitz on mobile QBs.

Hopefully we spy more. We can't let them split out our LBs if we go out in a nickel package if we don't creep a safety to spy on Dak.

Personally just having Beckwith and Adams in the game over Martin and welter is a huge plus.

Also i think maybe this is a game Jefferson is better suited for than Mills.

They lost 3 starting offensive linemen.
Regardless of what we do, their plays should have a tendency to break down a good bit quicker.

We'll also keep him off the field more.
They lost 3 starting DL, a CB, and a safety (among others) so our running game should get off to a much better start than last year..
State stopped us when we had 6 plays inside the 10, including a first and goal at the 2 where Fournette only got one carry.
Magee up the middle (2 yards)
Fade route to Dural (Pass interference)
Darrell Williams (to the 1)
Fournette stuffed
Hilliard stuffed
Jennings stuffed on 4th down.

That's not happening this year.

Controlled pressure(meaning pressure up the middle, outside contain from the outside rusher(whether that be a d tackle on a twisting stunt, an outside line backer, defensive end, safety, etc, who ever is the last man on the outside of the rush needs to contain)) and better tackling. Make him beat our superior secondary with good decisions and accurate throws.

We kept nickel in most of the night last year for Dak but when they went empty last year we did too. I couldn't believe it. We'd have NO backers in the box at times when they went 5 wide. NONE. To be fair, state was most likely running RPO'S and we were supposed to give Dak a "run" key read and them swarm the box with the two ilb' s when he pulled it down. But it just didn't work out that way. He got up a head of steam and we couldn't tackle him. I figure Steele will give him a pass key vs states' common RPO formations and then route read and "play the play" vs the simple concepts tagged. Also, as has been said, I'm interested to see how much of a drop off there is with states' OL.

This, but Chavis didn't help at all with the scheme.
Any time MSU went to an empty backfield Chavis left Welter in the box alone. That's 6 vs. 5 in the box with a running QB, no wonder MSU ran it down our throat all night.

This is the big one IMO. Long sustained drives resulting in points keeping him sidelined. It's the best way to keep any opponent from scoring.

The key to rushing a mobile QB for the defensive ends is NOT to run straight at him, but run at his outside shoulder. And to ignore the half step forward they all make everytime. If the QB moves forward then he is the defensive tackles job, and if he moves backward you have the half step you need to tackle him. It irritates me everytime I see a QB escape by making that simple forward sidestep - its something that is taught in 6th grade football. But EVERYTIME you see us rush in the past its like "O crap he is running forward, let me fully commit to tackling him before he runs into the 30 guys fighting in front of him cause I know he cant run around me". And then they whiff. I feel better now.

I rewatched the game yesterday and our defensive alignment was pure dogshit. That game could have gone sooo much differently. We rarely had two LBs within the box and several times we only had one and even then he was sometimes shaded to be near the tackles (like on Daks long TD run). We also gave up several long 3rd down conversions (3rd and Chavis at its worst).

We also had a few coverage busts (one resulting for a long TD) but those would have been mitigated if we had any semblance of a pass rush from our front 4. Their OL pretty much dominated our DL. Hard to win games when that happens.

This year we need to keep Beckwith in the middle at all times, put Tre White on Wilson at all times and shade a saftey over for help, and get some pressure on Dak from our front 4. We do those 3 things we win easily.

They replaced 3 olinemen that were seniors, their best rb,and 4 of their top 7 wrs. This Mississippi St. team isn't like last year's team.

That was basically Mullen knowing exactly how to scheme against the Chief. Most folks think it was him that made the comment about Chavis a few years ago about everyone knowing what he does. A few days before the game, supposedly Mullen said folks were going to be very surprised at how MSU would roll.

I'm sure scheme will be different, and MSU lost a ton from last year. In addition DJ and Beckwith rotated series last year and MSU did much of their damage with DJ in the game.

( don't bother trying to refute this point Penrod, I charted the stats last year and it wasn't close)
