Seems like every time I hear Ben Simmons' name mentioned, it's shortly following by the evident fact that he won't be here for more than 1 year. For me, this really is a huge turnoff for the sport. It's hard to get excited for a 1 season performance from a guy that is just starting to build those relations and experience with the other 4 guys on the court.

There's a ton of hype around the kid, but I can't find myself getting excited over someone who only wants to give his teammates 1 year of effort.

It works for Kentucky when you get the same top guy every year

And it's really tough to blame the guy when he is looking at a top 3 pick in the NBA draft...

This is the real world. Ben wants to do what loves on a higher stage while getting a huge paycheck.

It's dumb to think you wouldnt do the same thing.

The one and done is a huge downside for college basketball for me as well. They should simply allow the kid to sign a pro contract out of high school or commit to at least three years in college.

His choice either way.

Dude....

Enjoy the year that he's here.

He'll be giving a new set of teammates effort next year and for more years in the future.

He's worked his arse off to play ball for millions and if any of his current teammates were good enough to be one and done they'd leave in a heartbeat.

Has Ben Simmons ever said he was going pro after one year or are we all assuming it? I've asked this twice before and just got smart-elect answers. Anyone actually heard it from him?

It can work. Durant was one-and-done (from Maryland, of all places) and he's one of the most dyed-in-the-wool Longhorns there is. He's always repping the school (despite that being a REALLY unpopular move in OKC) and he's probably the most beloved basketball player in school history. Granted, that's not saying too much.

Issue with that is it would make all the kids on the fence choose the NBA, like baseball but it would be worse because the socio-economic background of the players is not as strong on average. Tons of them would choose quick money for their families over risking injury over 3 years in college.

The NBA needs a minor league for a bigger sample size of their potential draft picks too. I think they should just make it mandatory 2 years removed from HS and be done with it.

It's an absolute joke and a total mockery of college athlete.

And the sad part is they may not gel together fast enough this year to get any real benefit out of having him here.

All I can say is Simmons is the real deal and is worth going watch at the PMAC this year. Yes he is one and done but he is the best talent I've seen on the floor since Shaq! Enjoy it win or lose, tournament or no tournament.

I wish football and Basketball has farm system like baseball does, so that college is used for Kids that will be there at least 4 yrs. I no longer care for college Basketball because of this. But I don't blame the kids.

Benny has been hard committed for years. Posted countless pics to IG and Twitter. Got another very good player to come with him. Practically every IG post is about LSU or a pic of shaq and how much he loves this place. Who gives a shite if he's here for one year, he is making LSU a household name this year regardless of our record. And he's one of those kids that will come back 20 years from now after he's retired from being a legend in the NBA and will get a standing ovation on the 20-yard line. Dude has already done more for LSU in one year than 95% of athletes do in 4 years.

You realize the "they" you're referring to is the NBA. It's their rule.

I love the posters already counting out this team. That's fine. Clearly you people don't realize we are missing a senior leader who started and averaged 14 ppg and a transfer center who was very highly regarded coming out. Count us out, though.
