GMOs make much better food

and overall, even ignoring how amazing GMOs are, yes. while you may have had more pure food on average, you have much more food today

30 years ago, we still had starving people. now you have to try really hard to accomplish that

I am 54 years old and Miles is older. When I was in high school, if an O lineman was over 200 lbs. that was considered big
I'm 53 and as a Soph in HS I remember it was a big deal that our starting OL "averaged" 200lbs.

In 1980, there were 3 players over 300 pounds in the entire NFL. Today, there are over 400.

As for Mawae someone mentioned, he was around 275 as a senior for lsu. Ross Setters was the bigun.

My Dad was 5'11", 165, until he got older and put on some weight. His three sons are all 6' or better and over 200 lbs. He was born in 1933.

Once, when I kiddingly asked him why we were all bigger than he was, he had a very simple answer: "You motherfrickers ate a lot better".

That's why players like Billy Cannon and Gayle Sayers were considered freaks of nature back in the 50s/60s in college.

Would be cool to see people like cam newton to be average in 50-60 years.

Are we sure he actually "played"? He wasn't on the depth chart for his junior year and he was 3rd string in his senior year behind two sophomores. The two left guards on the depth chart in 1974 were Metz (6'2", 235) and Armour (6'3", 230). The two ahead of him in 1975 were Donahue (6'3", 237) and Downing (6'4", 245). At 6'1", 220 (a likely exaggeration) he probably never really was a D-1 lineman.

This. I seem to remember an article that quoted Bo Schembechler saying that Miles didn't play much.

Billy Cannon was an All Pro RB and TE not many of those...

Alvin Roy said if Cannon beefed up to 255-265 he would have been the strongest
man in the world.

Believe what you want. That article is a joke. The food quality today (processed, lots of chemicals, poisons, GMO's, steroids) is better than home grown foods just a few generations ago? You're an idiot.

First, you didn't get what I was saying. I'm not saying the quality of food is any better or worse. I'm saying that less people go hungry today than at any point in history. No matter how poor you are, you should have access to a meal: food stamps, soup kitchens, churches, etc. I know a lot of these things have been around a long time but people are going hungry less often. There's clear evidence of malnutrition affecting height.

Second, bringing GMOs into this argument is ludicrous. There is zero evidence that there are any ill effects from GMOs. We've been doing it for thousands of years. What do you think selective breeding is? Your selecting beneficial genes to carry on. The only thing genetic modification does is speed up the process. GMOs have done more to solve world hunger than any other process/action in the history of mankind. Being able to produce disease resistant rice, or grains that have higher vitamin contents is massively important. Turning on a gene in salmon that make them grow faster saves resources. They get shown as "mutant fish", but the only thing it does is make them achieve their adult size in 1/3 the time, it doesn't increase their natural size. That is 99% of what happens with GMOs, the "roundup-ready" crops make up a small portion in the grand scheme. Some of those may end up being bad for us, but I'd hesitate to say there's a link between pesticides and an INCREASE in height.

I provide evidence, you toss an ad hominem at me and shift to another cause without any actual proof that you're right, or that I'm wrong. Great argument!
