It's actually a combo at the point of attack.....the underneath linemen gains position and the play side
Linemen works to the second level. The reason everyone runs this zone scheme is to counter
run Blitz. They are having problems picking up the LB at the second level. It is some what of a read and react scheme. Most
NFL teams exclusively run this
scheme. Communication is a must.

it's pretty hard to be sold on it. it's fricking up the entire offense.

we have very young QBs,...and knowing that the OL is vital to a young QB..... I NEVER WOULD HAVE PICKED THIS ONE AS THE SEASON IN WHICH TO MAKE CHANGES.

I started going to John Curtis in 5th grade in 1985. Coach Corey taught us the foundations of zone blocking then and Coach Rob and Coach Moffitt drilled it home in high school. They still do it today& continue to run the same offense. If our much ballyhooed, experienced o-line at LSU can't understand the very simple concepts of playside steps & working to the next level but 10 yr olds can, than the problems up front are much worse than anyone can fix with this group. It all starts with the center, & #55 is terrible. He's probably the worst at that position in the last 20+ years. Communication, & more importantly, effort and attitude will solve their problems. That's the player's responsibilities, and not coaching. Coaches can, however, change the personnel.

Are you idiots stupid enough to question an offensive lineman on why he thinks one scheme is better than another?

Geez you guys are dumbasses.

And so I ask, are you happy with the progress of the OL in adjusting to Grimes scheme? They were highly respected coming into this season and now we are the laughing stock of the league and moat offensive issues can be traced to the failures of the OL.

We know that a zone blocking scheme CAN be successful, but we also know that it can also be horribly unsuccessful. If the O-line, at the end of the year doesn't look like night and day from right now, Grimes has to go. IMO

The only thing that confuses me is smashmouth football and zone running games do not mix.

In most zone blocking schemes, linemen are coached to give ground to gain leverage. RBs take the handoff and look for the running lane to open up.

Smashmouth running is firing off the line, moving the LOS and the back hits the designated hole at full speed.

It seems like LSU is trying to combine the two schemes and you are seeing the results. OL is not getting a push and backs are hitting the holes too quick to allow any lanes or cutbacks to open.

So now we should be able to be successful with the scheme an NFL team uses with Elway?

Great point! Post less

miles and cam both know the ol, so I think its more than the rant understands. it would help if we had better play design and scheme. its not all on the ol or grimes. we just line up and expect to be better than the other guys. we don't care if they know what the play is. ol would also be helped if harris plays and rolls out more and uses athleticism. we need to get the dl to think and hesitate rather than just charge forward and run into ball carrier.

I don't care what scheme you're in. If you line up in the I with 1 WR to the right and never throw to anyone but that one WR, you aren't going to be able to run the ball on anyone.

We ran more out of 3-4 WR sets on 1st down last week and were picking up 7-8 yards consistently.

The thought process has to go through instanteanously

And that is why the line doesn't look good. They're too busy thinking about their blocks and not straight up blocking as they're use to

Well explain to me how zone blocking has benefitted us and how it correlates to our offense? Please be specific and just quote?

Saying that we aren't executing the blocking scheme well is very different than what I, and many others, thought you were trying to say.

You used your Dad as an authority, and posted this quote:

Dad goes on to say zone doesn't work because people hesitate, you step right or left and no one is there what do you do
