How much weight does the Miami game carry?

We're barely ranked, they're top 10.

Objectively, how much do we move up if we win convincingly? If we look good in the game, I think we could jump to around 12, right off the bat. That sets up the Auburn game nicely, and positions us to be Top 10 for Georgia down the road (if we win).

Or, do you think we'll still hang low, and face a "Wisconsin" type situation, where voters seem to look for teams to keep ahead of us, until there's nobody left?

We will easily hop into the Top15 with a win over Miami, maybe even the Top12.

We will be 1 of only about 4 or 5 teams with a "really strong win" in Week1. The only other games that will really be "resume builders" for the winning team in Week1:

Washington/Auburn
NotreDame/Michigan
VaTech/FSU

Top 15, and 12 is very wishful. I would say we’d jump to 17 or 18 with a Miami win. If we happened to start 3-0 with a win over Auburn. I’d put us at around 9.

This is the most significant game for LSU since we beat Clowney and South Carolina in Death Valley. I really think we are at a cross roads. LSU can either start to ascend to the mountain top again, or decline to depths of SEC mediocracy. This is also a cross roads for CEO and his legacy.

Make LSU great again!

Suck that tigah d*** bitch!

From 25 to top 12? Nah... not after week 1. Not enough big Week 1 matchups for us to move up that much.

LSU’s season rides on the Miami game. A loss and LSU is very likely 1-2 after Auburn. And the lone victory earns you NOTHING.

It’s big.

A loss would be devastating for O. Losing would actually be a much bigger statement on the state on the program than winning, as this is a game we SHOULD win.

LSU would move to around 15, Miami would drop to around 20.
The narrative would be Miami loses 4th game in a row and was never deserving of high ranking.

The polls (and the way people rank teams) have changed since the start of the CFP ... Whereas historically you would usually only move up if a team above you loses, there are a lot more people scrapping the previous week's poll each week and ranking strictly based on results that have happened on the field. Early season polls are a TON more "fluid" than they used to be, almost to the point in the first couple weeks people totally disregard wherever they had teams in their preseason poll. Pollsters have learned that while preseason polls are fun, they're really irrelevant and should not be looked at as a baseline as the season plays out.

That's why you'll see LSU move into the Top15 after a win over Miami. It won't have anything to do with the teams above us losing necessarily.

I have no doubt LSU would be in the Top15 after a win over Miami in Week1, regardless of how the game plays out. Top10 would be a stretch, but even that is possible depending upon how LSU looks vs Miami... If LSU wins 47-10, I absolutely could see us landing in the Top10.

Could set the tone for the season so I'd say it's critical. could be a gigantic confidence builder for the team

Good starts are only awesome until your first loss. If you're going to be sloppy and lose one, it's best to do it against a good team and early.

Let's not test the theory

Winning will take care of the rankings.

Rankings do not matter at this point of the year. If we win and do what we’re supposed to do, the rankings take care of itself. We play in the SEC and if we beat everyone else it doesn’t matter?

I agree this is a huge game, for many reasons. I think it is the perfect game. Very highly ranked team that we are more talented than, and playing at a place that will be 70% lsu.

Several of the ESPN talking heads included Miami on their list of overrated teams. I don’t think beating them will vault us into the top 15. I think the Miami game is important if for no other reason than a loss immediately turns up the heat on Special Ed’s seat. Any good will he has going into this season will immediately vanish with a loss, especially if we look bad doing it. With at least 3 SEC losses likely, we’re looking at an 8-4 best case scenario if we lose to the U.

I think it carries weight for sure but I don’t think people will be shocked if we win that game. So I don’t see a big jump if we win. Miami is a good team so if we happened to win big like 24-7 type game then I see a jump possibly to #14-15 range. If we win 28-27 type game #19-20 range.

Not happening. 15-18 range regardless if we win convincingly
