Thinking about it maybe for next year, but wasn't sure whether we are talking about $1000 or $2000 or more.

Thanks in advance.

Do the math

Hotel for 5-6 days @ $300/day, you're already at 1,500.
Add in tickets
Add in food
Add in plane tickets or $19 gas if you're driving

Depends on the experience you want. I went when LSU did the last time and split a hotel room in Council Bluffs, Iowa with 3 friends, and we all rode together in a Honda Accord. We bought a book of 10 general admission tickets each, and each book was $100. The kicker there is they only allow a certain number of people in general admission, and they sell WAYYYYYY more tickets than they have seats. So we would bring a cooler and "tailgate" in the line for general admission. There were some nice fans with a great setup up near the front of the line that would hold our cooler for us until after the game. I think I personally spent about $900, and we only went for the second series against Oregon State and the Finals. Now if you're bringing wife/kids, want to stay in Omaha, and want guaranteed seats without having to wait in line for literally hours, prices start climbing.

I went about a decade ago, and it's cheaper than you think. Of course you can go all out a spend a lot of money if you are buying grand stand seats, but general admission was $8/ticket. You do have to wait in line for hours before the game to get a good outfield seat, but you also save on the $100/ticket or so for sitting on the baselines.

You can find hotels about 20-30 minutes outside of the city to save. We found a deal for $100 a night at a decent hotel (stayed for 10 days). Food and drinks are as expensive as you make them. We ate the free breakfast at the hotel and also prepared meals at the hotel (had a kitchen suite).

All in all I probably spent less than $2,000 for the entire trip with a group of 4. It could have been as much as $4,000 easily if we ate at Restaurants for every meal and did a lot of drinking and purchased high dollar seats, but since it was my family going and I had to pay the entire bill, we went economical. Going with a group of guys, you can divide the cost between several people, and you could literally go for the entire 2 weeks and probably only spend $800-$1,000 a piece.

With another year of Biden. Probably unaffordable next year unless you are a multi millionaire.

Overrated based on the expense of it. Best way to describe it.
