If you can remember the year that Notre Dame starting going to bowl games and how that affected LSU, then you know if I was before or after 2000.

a team with a 5-3 SEC record has won the title exactly once
So, any team not winning the SEC is mediocre.
LSU plays in the SEC and not the Sunbelt, man. There have been lots of really good SEC football teams who finished at 5-3.
U need to get out of your home more and see the SEC for what it is, the best college football in the nation.

Nooooo. That's not what I said. Try it again. I stated that a team which won SEC titles once every two decades (which is what the data suggests would occur if LSU finished 5-3 every season) is indeed mediocre. Obviously, an 8-0, 7-1 team that fails to win the title isn't mediocre, since finishing with one of those records every year would result in a much higher rate of SECC's over time.
5-3 isn't a terrible record. It isn't a poor record. It's just an average, ordinary, mediocre record that, over the long term, would result in a very low frequency of SECC's.

Don't blame you.

Been going to the games since the early 70's

First game was in 1996 vs Vanderbilt... We won 35-0... Kevin Faulk and Rondell Mealey were awesome in that game

The two types of fans that I think do all the whining and complaining on this board are BANDWAGONERS and CHILDREN from the ages of 13- to mid or early twenties who started following LSU football after or just before the first championship in 2003. My reason for believing this is because they did not experience the 4-7 of DiNardo in 1998 after being preseason top 15 or the 16-28 over Hallman’s tenure.
It's just the opposite for me. I started going to LSU football games in 1971, and it's precisely because I did see what happened through those decades since then that I'm disappointed with our current coaching staff. Having seen it before makes it easier to see when it's happening again. This is the Charles McClendon era all over again. He was a good coach who took over the program when it was a national elite, maintained it somewhat for a while and ultimately drove it into mediocrity. Like Miles, Mac had too good a record to justify firing him, but under his guidance the program became solidly entrenched as an SEC also-ran. It's because I have seen this happen before that I can recognize it when it's happening again. Right now. I don't want LSU to repeat the mistake of the 1970s and keep a decent but not great coach for 18 years because he's a good guy and has a pretty good record, while managing only one SEC championship and never contending for the national championship for that 18 year period.
And I will never understand the mentality of using Hallman and DiNardo as the benchmarks against which LSU coaches should be judged. Yes, Miles is better than those guys. So what? Is it enough for LSU fans that a coach simply not be the worst we've ever had? That's the standard? Just don't be the worst ever and you're OK? I hope not.

This is a lucid, rational, cogent, compelling post.
Well said.
If it appears that Miles is going to replicate McClendon's trajectory, we need to fire him sooner rather than later.
We shall see if the analogy holds true as this year unfolds.

Been to games starting from 1988....had some sad years during that time.
That is the reason why I am not to hard on Les. He has been here longer than any of the other coaches in that time frame and has had more success.
LSU is one of the top programs in the nation and just because we have a few "bad" years (I laugh at that statement) is no reason to want to run out and hang the coaching staff. Have they made mistakes, yes, as have other coaching staffs at other universities.
I still think Coach Miles is the best man for the job and until he has more then two LOSING seasons I will continue to believe that.
On that note I say Geaux Tigers and here is to another fun filled season of SEC football….Got to love it!
