uh, Tom Herman was the OC at tOSU when Burrow signed to play there. So he clearly would have recruited him, having been Mr. Football for the state of Ohio.

Herman would have been starting his 2nd year at LSU, with Etling having just graduated, when Burrow's name was in the transfer portal. I'm pretty sure they would have made contact.

The fact that Herman didn't succeed at Texas isn't necessarily a sign that he won't succeed at LSU. Succeeding at Texas (like succeeding at aTm) seems to be an issue independent of who the coach is. I'd still give him a hard look this time around. There have been good coaches who weren't world beaters in their earlier stints (e.g, Saban at Michigan State, Kiffin at USC). Unless you're holding out for a proven NFL coach, you have to look at more than their W-L record at a program that has other issues.

Tom Herman would’ve been more successful here than at UTa

I would interview him this go around

7-3 at UT his final year with like a 4 overtime loss to OU and the other two losses by 5 points total.

I would as well. I think he would be a home run hire.

Innovative offensive coach and can definitely recruit.

He’s good enough for the Chicago Bears but not most on the Rant.

YEs. Most of us wanted Herman.

At the time, we had been in offensive purgatory for what seemed like 10 years. And Herman was an offensive coach that everyone kept saying was a genius...

In my opinion, we needed Herman to change and modernize our offense.... with Dave Aranda as D Coordinator.

My 2nd choice would have been "the field", meaning any current sitting-head coach that had been reasonably successful at winning / building. At any Power 5 school.

I thought O was a rock-solid DLine coach and recruiter.

The outcome, in fact, was lazy. How could Joe Alleva be the AD at a heavyweight like LSU and his final 2 were Herman and O.

Just curious about how many of you wanted Tom Herman back in 2017?

How many people wanted o back in 2017? Serious question.

And for the record, I would have taken anybody over o.

Not that I necessarily want Herman as HC now this go-round, but if for some reason he does miraculously land the job now we don’t have to worry about him eventually leaving for Texas.

Which is what probably would have happened last time if he came here and had success.

Well so why don’t y’all want him now?

Many say he’d have done well here and many think he’d have done better here than he did in Texas so why not put him at the top of the list?

The guy is working as a consultant. He’s totally available.

Why not now?
What has really changed?

the thing that's mainly changed with him is he has shown a little bit of immaturity on the sideline and his play calling has proven to be mediocre.

He's got a strong offensive background so I have no problem with him being involved, but it was apparent when he was calling plays and Yurcich was last season

I admit I did

I was disappointed by the O hire and then on board after we looked good in 2018, sold in 2019

2020 I wrote off, young team in a year like that has disaster written all over it, all I really wanted to see this year was improvement and while I've seen it some areas I haven't seen enough and we've regressed in other areas

I'm really not sure why Texas fired Herman. Dude took over a losing program and made them winners. Charlie Strong had 3 losing seasons in a row. Herman came in and had 4 winning seasons with 4 bowl wins and got fired.

Because he got fired, people act like he can't coach.

I honestly think he would’ve done very well here. He would’ve most likely kept Aranda as DC so defense would’ve stayed the same and then we all know he can coach the offensive side of the ball.

Why? Do we enjoy men kissing men more then in Texas. If he is so good why is he not coaching now or did I miss his hiring. I would like Herman as OC but that’s it.

Sure we would! Like Texas was improving yearly.
