How many LSU fans will shed a tear on Hawthorns last day?
If you heard John Ferguson Jim has always been a pale substitute. When you add his many errors on a game by game basis it is embarrassing for lsu to have such a hack. Good riddance and please let them get a quality play by play guy for the first time since John Ferguson!!!!

I listened to John Ferguson and Walter Hill for many years and had a great deal of respect the job he did for the games. But, I also vividly remember being so frustrated trying to figure out what was going on during a play. JF made his share of mistakes, as all of them do. John and Jim both have done great jobs, loved LSU and given us all a lot of great memories.

No matter what you think about Hawthorne you have to admit he's a legend. It'll be weird hearing someone else.

Jim Hawthorne has always been a classy individual and always had time for me as a fan. Too bad you don't have the same amount class as to trash a decent individual.

Be gald when he's gone. Nice guy. I'm sure. So's my grandfather but wouldn't want him calling the games either

This is not about the poster before me. It was an earlier poster who said, "Tears of joy....good riddance.m...." Except for him ...you all have been very complimentary

VERY CLASSLESS POST....WOULD YOU EVER HAVE THE COURAGE TO SAY THAT JIM HAWTHORNE'S FACE??? I DOUBT IT. JIM HAWTHORNE IS A GREAT ANNOUNCER AND CLASSY INDIVIDUAL WHO ALWAYS HAS TIME FOR THE AVERAGE FAN AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN NICE TO ME IN PERSON. IT IS TOO BAD YOU HAVE TO DENIGRATE A DECENT PERSON WITH A GUTLESS POST. I AM SURE YOU WOULD BE ELOQUENT BEHNID THE MIKE....NOT!! YOU WOULD LIKELY FALL APART.

"Kentucky is sending in their punter so evidently they're not going to kick."

"The kick is straight and true, and off to the right."

"The kick is down the middle, but off to the left."

"Alexander roars around the right side and is stopped at the line of scrimmage."

And my all-time favorite:

"Here's a little counter-reverse option to the right. The play works, but it gains nothing."

Off the cuff I will go with Tommy Hodson being tied with Tommy Hodson!

I would have no problem telling Jim anything I just said as it is all true. You may believe Jim is a good person and that is ur opinion! However there are tons of good people who are not good announcers that is not a requirement for the play by play job. Just because you don't like what I say does not make it gutless. I don't think I could do better than Jim but I expect an LSU play by play announcer to be much better than me and hopefully one of the best announcers in the country which Jim most certainly is not! I am positive I could tell the difference between Jack Hunt and Devery Henderson in any game situation which obviously Jim was unable to do!

Oh well one trivia question dude! I am sure I could spend an hour looking up a question that you could not answer also! Not worth my time to prove to you! Off the cuff can you name the entire 1982 starting ? One of the best in LSU history or the fullback on that team? Step up Nixie

OH and you might want to know that the record for most consecutive completions by an LSU qb is 14 not 13 held by Chad Loup and Mauck! Might want to know the answer to your own question before you ask it!

your buddy said 13 completions but that is incorrect. According to LSU record book it is held by Mauck and loup. You guys need to get ur questions straight or get LSU to change its records to suit your answers

So the LSU media guide that says Russell completed 14 consecutive passes against MSU in 2006 is wrong??

I likely will.

Most folks think about their parents being gone around the holidays. I think about mom being gone moreso on the first LSU gameday of the year. She, Hawthorne, and I pulled LSU to a many a wins (after dad had gotten pissed, swore'em off again, and quit listening). Can pretty much guarantee y'all that when Hawthorne starts talking about it being the end of his broadcast career, I'll tear up, as I'll always associated his voice with mom and I - just the two of us - sitting up and listening to the game. In a strange way, I feel sorry for folks a little younger than me that grew up with pretty much every big college football game, and then later on, pretty much every LSU game being televised. A kid can watch the game on TV with his folks, go to the game live with them, or listen to a game on the radio with them. All three are special in their own way, and I'm very thankful for getting to experience all three more times than I can count.

So I'm assuming his last game will be baseball correct? If so winning a natty with him in Omaha would be fantastic

There are far, far worse announcers out there. Trust me. What was then Northeast La U, had some idiot who sounded like "Radar O'Reilly" who said some of the stupidest shite as a PA announcer. My favorite was when he announced that NLU's QB was "forced" to fumble the ball on a play. That was some years back, but had to be one of the most idiot calls ever made.

No, Hawthorne will be appreciated more by the fans after he leaves. He took a little getting used to, but I got accustomed to his calling and he did a good job of describing the plays to his listeners. Mistakes? Everyone makes them. Ferguson made his share as well, but we didn't have social media to nitpick everything back then.
