The Tigers were not effective inside the 20-yard line. In 56 attempts inside the red zone, LSU scored points 43 times. Of the 130 teams in Division I, only 25 had a lower conversion rate.

In the past decade, no LSU team has been less effective in the red zone than it was in 2017. From 2008 to 2016, LSU averaged an 86 percent conversion rate with a low of 78.72 percent in 2014 and a high of 93.44 percent in 2011.

Of the 118 teams the Southeastern Conference produced over the past 10 years, 2017 LSU ranked 95th.

LSU knows what the problem is and is on a mission to fix it.

The offense as a whole will take a drastic change as the Tigers shift from the Matt Canada era of playing calling to what’s being portrayed as a more simple, traditional scheme under Steve Ensminger. But the red zone, more so than just about anywhere else, will undergo major alterations.

It is needed.

Eight of LSU’s 13 unsuccessful trips to the red zone were missed field goals. For the most part, those misses didn’t alter the outcome of the game — except for when it did in a big way.

The six missed points against Notre Dame would have been enough for a much-needed bowl win and the three points left on the field against Troy was the difference maker in a loss that haunted the Tigers.

Wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan has been working with Ensminger extensively to install the new red-zone offense.
Wide receiver Jonathan Giles said LSU is experimenting with a variety of pass schemes from bunch sets to five-wide sets, a potentially major shift for an offense that rarely ran four-wide sets from anywhere on the field in 2017.

I like seeing Sullivan actively involved in shaping our offense. Also this sounds a little like the Saints offense using bunch sets of WR.

Installing a fade for our 6'6 receivers would be a food start

That's what Ree does best. I don't ever recall seeing him post this kind of stuff before o was the head coach, but he does it now, and he does it a lot.

It appears Ree has found his calling in life.

I would like to know why he wasn't the WR coach last year if he's as good as people say he is, which I am not doubting. He was on staff, how come he wasn't the coach?

More improvement as a result of Coach Orgeron’s extraordinary vision. With all of the positive changes he has made to the program there is no reason to expect anything less than a playoff appearance this year.

Red Zone offense was a huge problem. So were 3rd down conversions, but to a lesser degree.

Im excited knowing we have the best OC calling the offense. Between he and O we shouldn't even have a punter. Playoff bound baby.

Sounds like they're saying "we know why we lost last year, and now we've fixed those things."

Dynamic, multiple offense that can spread teams out, run with a power running attack when need be and be highly efficient in the red zone.

Great to hear, truly. Just don't get angry when that's what we expect to see. No excuses.

Just like they smoked Pitt last year to begin their three game skid to end the season?

Pitt was 3-5 and 5-7 and did not win or lose a bowl game because they did not qualify.

I don't see how Miami lost the game to Pitt. They had 232 total yards, 14 first downs and possessed the ball for 23:30. Pitt only had 345 yards, 20 first downs and had the ball for 36:30. Weird game.

Miami made up for it in their next game though. They scored 3 points against Clemson while holding them to only 38. Hell of an offensive and defensive output for the Canes in that one.
