Yep. Lsu could only exceed expectstions last year by winning it all and could only meet expectstions by making the championship game.

So it's not an inaccurate assessment by the OP, it just needs to be put in context.

I think its a clever spin, which is why i want the comparison to other teams who regularly get national seeds

Geez you guys overthink everything. We get it CPM the last few years has struggled in the post season. This season is an outlier because they will take a step back and won't be a national seed for the first time in five years. So if this team which isn't as good as the last four years travels for a regional and wins but loses in the super by your measure would overachieve by their rankings going into the tourney. So does that mean that this team had a better season than the ones you are saying underachieved that went to Omaha and didn't win to justify their tourney ranking?

If you make it to Omaha the season is a success. Just like making it to an elite 8 or final four in basketball. After that anything else is a plus. Anything can happen in a double elimination tourney and the best team doesn't usually win.

Seems like that was the only point the OP was trying to make.

Now you're overthinking it.

For most if not all teams, yes. But I'm an irrational fan and believe LSU is different.

We are the kentucky of college baseball. Using this metric, they underachieve a frick ton in the postseason

I'm pretty sure their whole program feels that way.

The outlet that most closely monitors high school baseball prospects has ranked LSU's classes:

2015 17
2014 9
2013 12
2012 12
2011 15

5 years, not a single top 8 recruiting class and we expect to play in Omaha every season.

Baseball recruiting rankings are a little different. But still, we could recruit better

How did a 1-2 in CWS with a #2 start get a met in 2008 and 2013 and 2015 got under?

Look, we are all disappointed that we didn't win it all last year with that team. Certainly didn't meet most expectations, but a NC is an unrealistic expectation in general. I personally think that CPM underachieves in the postseason overall, but he has also overachieved as well (2008 and you can argue 2009).

Skip set unrealistic expectations for us as a program, but that type of run (87-00) is not going to happen again.

I thought we had the #1 recruiting class the year before last.

Look at the seeds, not the rank.

We did. The Mac Marshall class.

Perfect Game ranked that class 9th after the draft and after Mac Marshall transferred. The class was still probably overrated considering what we've gotten out of Latz and the Byrd transfer.

You sure? Mac didn't leave until mid fall and most classes were already ranked by then. I didn't realize PG put out another one after October.

Mac isn't listed on that class' roster on the perfect game site.

Godfrey was the other defection from class.

Uh. Godfrey just left. No way PG's ranking that year doesn't have him in it.

Everything I saw that summer once that sign deadline had passed had us at #1.
