it's had 3 bad games in a row, but many aren't willing to call it bad yet

so will it take 4? 5? 6? 7? 8? 9?

This Saturday is a statement game. On the road against a mid-level SEC team with an average offense. Here is my judgment;

USC scores 0-6 LSU is fine
USC scores 7-17 OK
USC scores 18-28 Concerning
USC scores 29-38 WTF
USC scores 39+ There will be rioting in the streets and changes will be made.

Bad is only as bad as your Win-Loss record

Hasn't it already had enough?? Even dating back to last year. I thought that D should have been alot better last year, at least statistically.

Arkansas? Couldn't even stop a FB running 75 yrds for a score, you knew it was gonna be a long day.

OM? Brent Schafaa scorched us. We won the game, but our O and Special teams played a crucial part.

Kentucky? Not going to go there.

Bama? I seem to remember them moving the ball a little in that game. We helped them out with TOs.

I think the defense is playing poorly. The potential is there to be a good defense. But at the moment it is bad. MSU and Auburn exposed them.

So we have to lose in order for Miles to make changes? If he's willing to go that far, he needs to hit the road along with his 2 shitty DCs.

Our defense, with the exception of 2006 hasnt been great since the 2003 team. Since then, it's been overrated, but not quite bad.

Maybe "defensively challenged" is the way to say it?

I suppose you can affix a label whenever you like, but I suspect many of us don't care so much about that. The D has obviously underperformed and will need to adjust schematically, in terms of personnel, or all of the above to avoid similar results.

The big thing to me is that it's too easy for the other team to get mismatches on our LB's and on McCray. The absence of a first rate pass rush from the front 4 doesn't help, either. Although not perfect, I can live with the play from the first year starters at CB.

Every team in college football is bad ... LSU is just like everyone else.

because after losses teppertigers come on here and act like baghdad bob, saying nothing is wrong, everybody for LSU did well, and we just got unlucky. that darn opponent played their hearts out b/c LSU is their superbowl

they need to be corrected

then there are also dumbasses who are critical of the wrong things, and i reply to them too

I do not think the defense is bad.

It is, however:

1) poorly coached...Mallveto experiment should end at the end of this season

2) poorly schemed...too much nickel/dime and relaxed "come beat us" zone and not enough man to man, ball sto the wall stuff we saw in '03 with pressing corners, free ranging safeties, and LB perplexed "shows and gos"

3) Not utilizing new talent...players like Corley, Nevis, Livingston, Baker, Brooks, Clemons, etc. need to get a shot. Corley, for example, was the most sought after DL in his class. What's he need to sit on the bench and learn?

4) *NOT AS GOOD AS OTHER SEC DEFENSES* There is a lack of speed compared to Bama, Florida, and get this...even Tennessee. This defense is putrid in the red zone and that dates back to last year. We have athletes, but we always have athletes...we lack LB's that can do multiple duties besides tackling and blitzing. We have a defensive line that is overrated...for example, Kirston Pittman is obviously still injured because he looked like paint drying vs. UF. Marlon Favorite cannot stop face-masking players. Al Woods has done what? Charles Alexander will never be 100 percent.

This defense needs adjustments. I don't know. I am not a coach...but better and faster players are sitting on the bench. This is the SEC. Get the fastest guys on the field.
