How long before playoff expands to 32 teams?

You know they are going to completely beat the dead horse in the quest for money. I’m talking South Park scenes of Spielberg raping Indiana Jones levels of exploitation. Even 64 teams wasn’t enough for them in basketball.
3 years? 5?

The year after expanding to 24. Eventually the playoffs will be 64 teams.

FCS has been at 24 for a while and worked really well there
I dont see expansion in the near future beyond that unless they start to re-org the divisions as a whole
I've said for years now Division I should really be 3 subdivisions, not 2.
Most mid-majors and top FCS teams need to be able to play for their own national title, pretending Wyoming should be on the same playing field as UGA or Ohio St is just silly over long term in terms of competition. There are also top FCS teams that just ransack over most of the FCS competition (like an NDSU that just moved up to FBS).
Let the power conference teams have their own playoff (maybe even drag up a few of the top mid majors, kind of like a few of the "power conferences" already have). Let the FBs mid-majors and top FCS teams play their own playoff and let the remaining FCS teams have their playoff.
Something for every team to really play for.
There's some upset folks out there moving to 24 in FBS and not having all 10 conferences have an auto bid is a travesty - in FCS all conferences hav an auto bid to their 24 team playoff. But do we really want 8-4 Akron champion of the MAC taking a spot of 9-3 maybe even 10-2 power conference team? Yeah, I dunno about that.

You will be able to go 6-6 and make playoffs. Totally ruins the game.

It’s not about it working. It’s about money.

No to 32 teams. I personally think 24 is too much. I would have supported 16, but no more than that.
SEC, B1G, ACC, Big 12 have 68 teams. At a minimum, all of those schools should make up CFB 1 Conference. There would need to be more schools added from the mid-majors because 68 teams is not enough to support a 24 team playoff.

24 is already too many.
But they will keep expanding as long as they keep making more money just like the stupid arse March Madness

Why stop at 32? Let's get it to 128

You'll own no college football pride and be happy.
But it'll be more slots for more saban home depot commercials.

24 Teams is already too many, but I'm hoping they come to their senses and recognize that having unranked teams in the playoffs would be an idiotic idea. Anything more and the regular season will almost be pointless.

Why do some of you have the need to invent things to be angry about?

Yes. College football is ruined because of your fantasy prediction of 6-6 teams making the playoffs. Do you not realize how ridiculous you sound? Or do you just not care?

As soon as they find that 24 teams is a cash cow.

Bet you were one of those that dismissed concerns from the first expansion.
It’s been 2 years from the last expansion. 2.

I was excited about the BCS...because I saw it as an improvement.
I was excited about expanding to 4...because I saw it as an improvment.
I was excited about explaining to 12...because I saw it as an improvment.
If this one is done correctly, I am excited about this one as well.
I will not apologize for thinking having some really great playoff match ups in December, on college campuses, is a bad thing.

Yes, and common sense tells you that this will be a number that sticks. I could see 32 teams as a possibility, but that will come with some major shake ups in CFB as a whole. They aren't just going to go from 24 to 32 under this same situation we are in.
But if it helps you to pretend that this will keep expanding forever, so you can have a reason to cry, go right ahead. Don't let me stop you.

Way too many games for “college” athletes. Should go back cap at top 10 only.

The next expansion will be to 32 teams, most likely in 2028
And will exclusively consist of SuperConference teams and Notre Dame, after the merger of the SEC, ACC, B1G, and Big 12.
There is no need whatsoever for non P4 schools in the playoff.
