Taking a swing at this:

-Leaving pitchers in too long
-Pitcher development
-Hitter development
-Missing on talent evaluation
-Sacrificing bottom of order hitting for defense as if you can’t have both
-Lack of energy with the program
-Loyalty to assistants

Everyone does this. Your not gonna have a stud at every single position. Problem is this year we don't have a solid defense. We've never had an infield defense this bad.

This I actually agree with. One thing Paul (Nolan) has done is always have top shelf starting pitching. I am in the camp of its time to move on from Mainieri, but you can’t use starting pitching as the reason. This freshman class is fantastic, but the recruiting and roster management the last several years has been average at best.

I think last year, we finish under .500 in SEC (we were bad last year) and I think we are staring at the same this year (seem better than last). I would love to get a new young coach to work with this freshman class next year.

The lack of energy in the program is very Miles-esque in his last several years.

The problem isn't recruiting talent, it's roster management. We have a ton of talent but we don't recruit for need at all. We recruit star players without any foresight into how they'll be used to complement each other. Then we end up with a bunch of players who either all play the same position, or one catcher who can hit but can't catch and another who can catch but can't hit, or a pitching staff without a single lefty on the roster. Right now we can hit but can't find a way to get all the best hitters on the field at once because our defense sucks. Normally its the opposite where our defense is great but we can't hit. All of this is roster management, not recruiting. Not to mention shite like letting Hampton walk or cutting Chris Reid. Then there's the fact that we've had the same pitching coach for a century yet most of our pitchers seem to peak as freshmen.

With all that said, he is really good at getting the team to peak at the right time. Other than that I can't find many positives in his game anymore

Personally I’m amazed at how long it takes to settle on a lineup.

Day one we had Morgan 1B, Doughty 2B, SS Arnold/Bianco duel and Third it was a gut move for Hellmers over Thompson.

Morgan stuck, Arnold was shifted to second, Thompson to SS and Doughty to third base. Then Arnold just lost his job to Cranford.

By my count we have had three different starters st second, SS and third base. Guys move around constantly, and while I don’t pretend to know it all the skills required to play second and third are different as are the skills to play short and third. I understand it can be done, but after months of spring ball why does it take so long to figure it all out? If it was just a matter of hitting guys wouldn’t be swiping positions, you’d be taking them out of the lineup. I see an infield with guys searching for confidence. There’s little cohesion and how could you expect it with so many moves?

Another thing is lefty/rightie match ups. We don’t platoon much even though you see guys struggling. Beloso/Travinski platoon? PM doesn’t go that route very often it seems.
