How good would our offense be with a gritty 3* QB?

Do we really need the stud athlete with a rocket arm or incredible dual threatness?

What about a guy that can deliver quick slants, jailbreak screens, bubble screens, 15 yard seam routes(if we ever decide to engage our TE's again) and the occasional 30+yard post or go route?

The guy that is tough as nails, plays with a chip on his shoulder and can read past 1 progression?

The guy that can turn a play action fake and read 2 or 3 crossing routes for who has the mismatch?

Obviously we would be better. What a dumb question.

I have always been a fan of the "why don't we get a 3* who is secretly extremely good" threads.

Less physically gifted, but more of a "QB". You've seen them all over college for the last 20 years.

The guy you're describing is not some dime a dozen 3* QB. When you see a 3* QB playing like that, it's for one of two reasons.

A) He was underrated as a 3*, and already had all the skills necessary to be a solid college QB.

B) The coaching staff did an extremely good job coaching him up and getting to play to his maximum potential.

So, it depends on what you're asking. If you're asking would we be better with a guy that can do those things, then the answer is obviously yes. We would be a better team if we were getting better play out of the QB position.

But if the question you're asking is, "So why don't we just recruit 3* QB's and then just go win all the national championships?"... well, it'd be lovely if it were that easy. But finding some diamond in the rough guy that can already do all those things is not easy. And coaching a guy up to do all those things is also not easy, but that's what Cam Cameron is supposed to be here for, and time will tell if he succeeds or not. And there's no reason he can't coach up Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris, or some other "physically gifted" QB to do those things. If we can't coach up a guy that actually has talent and natural ability, then sticking some average high school QB out there would end up even worse.

A running QB that was a lot better passer than the current "Dual Threat".

Why would we go as high to get a 3 star why not a composed and polished one star! Some one star that would go down as the greatest qb ever.

Yes, this sounds exactly like 90% of the 3* QBs.

Why don't we just call up the 2* bulldozer RBs who all have a chip on the shoulder but will actually rush for 15 ypc?

Here's a thought, let's get some 2* WRs that are all 6'10" and run 4.5 forties.

Or better yet, how about a 3* OLB who is basically just Lawrence Taylor?

You're making the assumption that the staff would be able to identify this player in the recruiting process

Excepting Mauck, Russell and Flynn... We know how successful they were.
But in the recent past, Herb Tyler Marcus Randall and of course Rohan Davey would have taken last year's team to the playoffs.
