"Hardly ever passed the ball"
Seems like that has been the case @ LSU forever, but I could be wrong.
They called him Alexander the Great for a reason. He was money.

He was also extremely fast. 4.3 - 4.4

When I was in elementary school he owned Alexander's sporting goods on Jones Creek. I used to talk to him all the time. I was probably 12. He had huge calves. I asked him about how he got such huge calves. He said do calf raises. I went home and did over 200 calf raises that night and I literally couldn't walk for 2 days. IB4 cool story bro and keiland's calves.
Eta: he was a great guy. Always had time for kids

You obviously know nothing about him. He never played tail back on the NFL. He was drafted By the Bengals who made him a damn blocking back with not that many carries per game. He had plenty of moves and he ran 4-3 to 4.4. And he ran every game into 8 man fronts.

Great guy, used to do business with him in the oil and gas field. Loved going to lunch with him and hearing his stories.

The closest I could relate for you would be a George Rogers "type" runner. Upright style, long strides, fast and tough as nails.

Went through many a tear away jerseys.

He was one hell of a running back during that era. Emerged after Brad Davis and Terry Robiskie (wasn't that impressed with the latter). He was like a bowling ball when he got his momentum. A different brand of Ball was played back then.

Big, tough, played fullback in the NFL as I recall.

Tell me how good he was
He was clearly the best offensive player in the conference for the late 1970s - ahead of guys like Wes Chandler (there was no real standout QB) and, if you count OL, Dwight Stephenson.
A dominant back on a run first team. The last truly great player of the Mac era. You felt like if you had to get 3 yards, Alexander could get them. If you needed to run the ball 40 times, Alexander could take 30 or 35 of those, easily. HE was a great player, despite not playing on particularly great LSU teams. The only analogue I can point you to is Faulk in the past 20 years or so, although they are different kinds of players - Faulk did things in the return game and so forth.

bullshite. We passed the ball our share in those days and our passing game was a helluva lot better than it is right now.
Bert Jones, Tom Hodson ... those names ring a bell?

Not from what I saw in the YouTube video link in this thread. Unless of course, that was every pass in the entire game condensed in those highlights. Looked like a very effective passing game to me.

You are correct.
That was just another in a long line of LSUGrandad’s bullshite posts which graphically illustrate he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about but posts anyway.

In that video it was Steve Ensminger that threw most of the passes. He was tough as nails too.
