I'm just curious to see what the general perception is on Mainieri. On a scale of 1 to 10, with Bertman a 10 and Smoke Laval, let's say a 6. Where do you put Mainieri?

If Smoke was a 6, PM is a 12

Not very high. Someone over on SEC Rant says he came out of the dugout jumping up and down because he was trying to see over home plate.

So you think Mainieri is better than Skip? I just think people were too critical of Smoke. It is never easy to follow a legend.

You can’t ask innocent questions like this. The people who masquerade as baseball fans here’s first and only job is suppression of speech and thought and unless you’re bowing at the feet of CPM and calling him the planets first perfect being they will relentlessly attack you.

C'mon king. I know you don't like Paul and tend to speak in hyperbole, but saying that anyone thinks Mainieri is better than Skip just isn't smart. You're much better than that.

What an oddly and wrongly condensed rating system.

You’re right some of it is hyperbole but I have this week seen someone explain that when Skip coached college baseball was easy and that he wouldn’t have more success than CPM has had in this era and that CPM would easily be able to duplicate what Skip did in the 90s. Now that’s not coming out and saying the words but it’s the same thing.

It's funny, a bunch of players and coaches that know/played for both Skip and Smoke say Smoke was the better coach

However they said Skip treated it like a professional team and acted as more of a manager.

Basically they said Smoke knew the game better and was a better teacher of baseball, but he just didn't know how to win or manage a team like Skip did.

Smoke is an MLB scout for a reason.

Not judging him on this season alone. Paul's gotten us to the World Series several times, let's see how things finish out here and next season.

I’d love to see that post. What I have seen is people saying Skip wouldn’t have replicated his own success he had in the 90s were he coaching today, which is something Skip has said himself so it’s not a comment coming out of left field. I have not seen even the biggest Mainieri loyalists say he was as good a coach as Skip.

Nah, he is just a mad king that got his feelings hurt because he has been wrong quite a bit. Of course he is stawmaning the frick out it now.
No one thinks he is better than skip. But its not really even debateable that the game has alot more parity now than when skip coached, and him winning 5 titles probably wouldnt happen

No it's not. Not at all. If you are to dense to realize how much college baseball has changed between the 80's-90's and now, then there is no helping you.

Would Skip have as many national titles in this day and age? Absolutely not. I feel 10000% confident saying that.

Would CPM have won as many then? Nobody can really know this. Skip built LSU into a monster. CPM is just living on what Skip built.
