Anybody that would take DiNardo over Miles needs their head examined.

right guy at the right time.

He got some holes plugged and stopped the boat from sinking. He was a good set up man for the next captain.

I don't hate DiNardo. He made a few horrible hires in replacing coordinators and it cost him his job. He wasn't the best coach ever but he left a good foundation for Saban to build on when he got here.

Judging from his subsequent coaching jobs, it seems like he punched above his weight class for a few years but just wasn't that good of a coach.

was a good coach, good recruiter. just too loyal to his assistants when it was obvious they were inadequate.

Overall I like Dinardo. He set the table for the resurgence of the early 2000's. In many respects, he is responsible for getting people interested in LSU football again with his bring back the magic campaign. He got LSU into some bowl games after they had been missing for years.

Lou Tepper was ultimately his downfall. Lou Tepper got his reputation on the backs of Kevin Hardy and Simeon Rice at Illinois. His linebacking philosophy works with those monsters at LB. With Thomas Dunson at LB, not so much.

and this.

ultimately i think i have a postive view of him bc my freshman yr was curley's last yr and so i attended LSU during his tenure and there were some good times in comparison to curley's tenure.

i stand by the fact that if it were not for dinardo showing that one could succeed here, maybe saban never comes here, and maybe the golden age of LSU football 2001-present never happens.

it's also my argument to anyone who think that any idiot could do well at LSU. it's a testament to what saban built on top of what dinardo started and most impressively what miles has done to maintain and build even more.

I grew up with him so I lived him. His teams just seemed to be able to get it done when they needed it. Plus tiger stadium was.............LOUD EVERY SINGLE GAME.

I've always liked him and thought he did some good things for LSU. If he had been able to hold his early staff together, he may have had more success. I just think he brought in the wrong guy on defense in Tepper, and also began to hire what appeared to be "yes" men so he could micromanage. But I still like him and always make time to listen if he's on the radio.

Dinardo became the coach around the time I really started watching LSU football. The two things about his tenure that stick out in my mind was the '97 Florida game, and then his losing season where fans made shirts saying "Dinardo Must GEAUX."

he turned things around, but then got derailed when he hired Lou Tepper as DC. Disaster.

But overall, good memories of him.

He started to put the fence back up in recruiting, and reversed the trend of the best LA players going anywhere but LSU.

Dinardo will always be remembered as a integral part of reviving the LSU program. He and his wife really did a lot for LSU and were in the cutting edge of what it takes to build/rebuild a program from the fan base up. He got money flowing into the program by getting fans rededicated to the program. His best moment was the 97' UF game and his downfall/worst moment was his allegiance to Lou Tepper which we should probably all be thankful for, his stubbornness to stand by his man paved the way for the hiring of Nick Saban and Les Miles.

When the program needed a promoter, he was awesome. When it needed a great coach, he was lousy. But, as the 10-plus-win seasons pile up, it's easier and easier to view DiNardo's tenure in a generally favorable light.

Definitely did, except was mostly every other week!
Never forget the 12-6 win over AU, was one of most intense games and of course 97 UF but was always up and down each week and of course the coordinators fiasco!

I actually think, but for his stubbornness, he possibly could have.

I think, in many ways, he was a smarter coach than Miles. And this is not from a Miles basher, either.

He had the best pseudo-rap Ford commercials of any LSU coach ever.
