re: How do we hire another coach if we don’t pay Kelly his buyout?

We are paying him. All we owe him is a monthly payment on 53m with no interest, and it can be offset with him getting new job.
It benefits him greatly to get lump sum at a lower amount.

Lsu needs to fire whoever is in charge of overseeing contracts and negotiating.

I’m sure with getting rid of Woody will make the payoff for BK not be in LSU’s favor

Exactly. There is mutual interest in a lump sum payout, and both sides are negotiating an amount.
That's the reality, not ridiculous argument that LSU is "not going to pay the buyout". There is a legal, binding contract.

We’re now in a big mess over Kelly’s $53 million buyout. He says we owe all of it and we don’t want to pay it all, but we didn’t get that worked out before we fired him.
It’s called negotiating

Ain’t no cause…BK was fired because A&M scored 35 straight points in the second half… if he beat A&M he would still be employed by LSU… any dirt we got on him isn’t worth 24 million dollars…

30 million dollars now or 54 over 6 years… where’s the benefit for him to take the 30

LSU is at $30M, while Kelly is at $53M. I see a lot of room in the middle. Would guess it finishes somewhere around $40M.

How can they afford to hire another coach if they DO pay the buyout.?
Posted on 11/10/25 at 11:38 am to AlaTiger
He's getting paid. This is a negotiating tactic for him. He declined a $30M lump sum because he thinks he can get more. Frick him. Pay him his $53M in monthly installments over the next 6 years, per the terms of the contract.
It's to his benefit for multiple reasons to take a generous lump sum payment. He's going to get lowballed on any potential salaries he might be offered because of this, so once again, frick him.

Long time lurker....first time poster... I have always enjoyed LSU fans (can't stand Nole fans)
Think about BK's potential salary like winning the lotto. If you win the lotto, you can choose an upfront payment or several years of set payments. If you accept the "lump sump payment", it is less than the total set payments over several years. This is because the time value of money.
Given BK will likely invest considerable funds, he can get a high return on investing a large sum now. The stock market is hot now especially in AI stocks. This is good news for BK from an investment perspective. So he may be willing to take quite a bit less that the $50sh million as a lump sum payment because he can invest and come out better than if he kept the existing contract.

You haven't heard the latest? LSU is cancelling football.
Posted on 11/10/25 at 11:55 am to AlaTiger
LSU is paying Kelly his buyout. The only question is whether they pay it out over the term of the contract (per the contract) or a lesser lump sum amount now by agreement with Kelly’s people. Anyone saying otherwise doesn’t know what they are talking about.

A group of boosters has already fronted the buyout.
Posted on 11/10/25 at 12:33 pm to AlaTiger
Not one person has said his buyout will not be paid. His contract requires LSU to pay him 800k per month for the rest of the contract. If no settlement is reached, that is what will happen.
Posted on 11/10/25 at 12:35 pm to AlaTiger
He is owed the entire buyout. If Scott was undermining his leadership he may also have grounds for a lawsuit.

The entire amount or the proposed settlement amount that LSU offered?

A couple of different BTR-born billionaires have been rumored to be the donors. Neither are LSU alums, BTR-born Woodward probably sold the buy-out donation based on personal connections. With SW gone is that deal still in place?
