I've wondered this for a while.

It seemed like they were the most egregious offenders of the title IX process and the most derelict in their duty of care for the members of their team.

Life is a mystery, and womens tennis and a female coach just doesnt sell

But yes, Julia Sell is the most culpable of anyone and she is pretty much unscathed

I would imagine there are multiple people who will eventually be fired, or perhaps just let their contracts expire.

Sell is one of them.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the coverage of the report focused on a situation that didn’t involve a student and issues that involved people who are no longer here.

There wasn’t a lot of talk about what was in the report concerning the events that actually led to the investigation/report to begin with.

IIRC, the Husch Blackwell Report could not verify the USA Today reporting that the Sells didn't forward the information properly. They look a lot better in the official report than they did in the USA Today article.

Don’t blame Sell for some player who
« fooled with fire » and got badly burned. It sounds like that player made her own decisions and repeatedly asked for interventions for her own decisions.

Furthermore, it sounds like the girl’s parents tried to blame others for their daughter’s choices.

Think the tennis coaches told the player to date this guy? I surely do not blame the coaches. That is the tennis player’s business and problem. Coaches cannot manage the « sowing of wild oats »!!!

Calling your player a liar, telling her teammates to not hang around her, and not reporting it to your supervisors is a bold way to handle a rape accusation Cotton

So when I looked at the HB report they came out a lot better looking.

Michael Sells story was that Lewis came to him saying she didn’t want to go pro, her dad was pushing her to, and she wanted to come back to LSU. He also said that the dad never told him she was being abused their conversation was only about her pro career, and that he had no reason to defend Davis who wasn’t a star player. There is also a separate incident where M. sells did report and go to bat for his player in some other sexual assault case as soon as he had knowledge of any abuse. There were also emails discussing her pro career going back and forth with no mention of abuse. A lot of the questionable stuff is of course allegedly verbal communication. The dad has a text with his wife that he was going to text to coach about the abuse, but not the text to the coach. He emailed the Director at Tennis about Drake but never emailed Sells.

The dad’s story talking to Mike Sells has a lot of holes and conveniently absent evidence, and Mike Sells makes a ton of sense.
