I mean...I'm no Alleva fan, but until this year one could make a very good argument that Bennett underachieved in the post season.

Let's keep WW and I'll be very happy.

Oddly enough, Trent’s first team beat the doors off of Tony Bennett’s Washington St team

One of those is not like the other. One has won a conference title in two years, the other has not.

As far as Trent Johnson being the better candidate, I'm not sure about that:

In two seasons at WSU, Bennett was 52-15 with 2 25+ win seasons and 2 NCAA appearances

In four seasons at Stanford and five at Nevada, Trent Jonhnson was 159-122 with 2 25+ season and 4 NCAA appearances.

While arguments can be made for both, Bennett's success over two years is undeniable. Johnson has several mediocre teams in a bigger sample size.

Because his flux capacitor wasn’t working.

I’m no fan of Alleva but this type of 20/20 is just stupid. Bennett has been as WSU what, 3 years? He had gone to at least 1 Sweet 16. Good resume. Johnson has taken 2 schools to the Sweet 16. There is no one at the time that thought Johnson was a bad hire. It didn’t work obviously but looked like a good hire at the time

Didn’t Bennett actually turn us down?

I doubt it. As I recall, he was making less than $1MM a year at WSU.

The decision falls on Alleva, there were certainly some other factors at play.

Pretty straightforward. Because he's not very good at his job.

The better question is, "How did Joe Alleva come to be the athletic director at LSU?"

Indiana purportedly offered Tony their HC job and he turned them down. Certainly no one would disagree that Indiana historically has a more illustrious program than LSU. Then and now. While certainly possible, it's unlikely he would have turned down Indiana only to accept the LSU job which you're assuming wasn't offered.

Was that post-Kelvin Sampson at IU, I can't remember.

Was there a possibility of looming sanctions.
