How critical is this game to the momentum of our program?

This is what most likely depends on the outcome of this game:

*A Heisman award.
*The SEC West, The SEC, and a shot at a National Championship.
*The #1 recruiting class.

All 3 could very likely go to the winner.

I think we win. But if we don't it will hurt our program far more than it would hurt Bama's.
I'm just wondering if anyone thinks there has been a more pivotal game in the past 15 years, or so.

It could be huge but won't break the program

If we go 10-1 and the lone loss is to Bama, it is a huge disappointment, IMO.

Miles absolutely has to get past the 1-9-12 debacle and he has to do it this game. No more of the tip toeing around not beating your opponent by stomping their throat when they're down. It is time he sweeps the leg and rips out the heart of his opponent. Get the lead and keep hammering away. I want to see a 35-10 lead with 2:00 to go and still throwing the ball deep. We have too much built up frustration the last four years to not blow their doors off and piss on their face.

That is how critical this game is.

in the scheme of this season, it is huge...in the scheme of the direction of the program, there is not much if any impact....

we have won games that were just as big and we have lost games that were just as big....few of them affected the program on a long-term basis...

Well if we beat Bama, their title hopes are essentially over. Think about that: it's been 4 painful years since we've beaten them and it couldn't have come in a better year if we do it this year. We would beat Bama, flush their title hopes down the toilet, and be undefeated coming out of Bryant Denny with the Heisman front runner and one of the hottest teams we've fielded in a while, and a few wins closer to Atlanta.

If we were to lose, we'd still be in good shape being our only loss came to one of the best teams in the country on the road. We would just need to win out and make the playoff as a 1 loss team.

I do hope we beat the living hell out of them though. It's been a long 4 years. We've suffered enough

I think people will just give up on beating Bama if LSU loses again this year. Might actually be good, reset expectations.

1/9 was a chance for us to officially be "the program". Instead, we gave that title and aura to Bama which has impacted perception, recruiting, national exposure, etc.

Time to get it back, but have to earn it. Players and coaches.

The game was played last year, sure, but we already had 2 losses (taking us out of the race for the WEST), didn't have any Heisman hopefuls, or a #1 class ready to be inked.

Okay then, fine. How about in 2012 and 2013? I feel like I've heard this song before about this game meaning everything to the future to our program.

This is a very important game to LSU to win the SECW. The outcome will not determine if LF wins the Heisman, nor will our recruiting be negatively affected.

If we win, beating Arkie will become just as important as beating alabama. And so on with Ole Miss, etc.

If we lose, life will go on and we fans need not act like spoiled kids pouting and recounting losses to alabama. The constant references to the NCG loss to alabama are ridiculous, imo. Grow a pair and move on. :-)

I would say if the "momentum" of your program depends on one game ...you have a poor program.

Same scenario as 2011 and we went there and pulled it off. That's why the rematch was such a screw job

Depends on what you want.

Good you're ok with playing 2nd fiddle to Alabama again and playing in outback bowl...

If you want to be sec champions and be in the playoffs, we gotta fricking win.

That's all it is to it.

Some people are happy with 2nd place.
Others aren't.

As a program it's time for LSU to put up or shut up. Four in a row now, and while we should have won two of them, we didn't.

If we don't get them this year, I really don't see the next time we beat them.

Say what you want, but this game is now 90% of what a majority of fans base success upon. If we lose, we're not going to Atlanta for anything but the Peach Bowl.

We, the fans need the win for the pride of our great state and university and agree will not effect our momentum as a program. I have never been as confident, this team and this offense is special.

We didn't have a Heisman frontrunner in either of those years, we were in contention for the SEC West in 2012 but probably not in 2013..
We were not undefeated in either case.

I think that the fans, recruits, and even players, are going to get overwhelmed with feelings of underachievement if we come in undefeated against a bama team that is perceived (fairly or not) as "down" and lose for a 5th straight time. You'd have to think that even the most hardcore optimists would start asking themselves when we'll ever re-take Bama.

Again, I think we'll win. I think these players are tired of it and have the "perfect storm" of leadership, desire, talent, and coaching to accomplish it.
I just think it's extremely important this year.

This game obviously has huge implications on this year but will not dramatically negatively impact LSU if they lose. I honestly think Bama has more to lose from a drop off standpoint.
