No coach is good enough that he should be able to bend the university over like that.
From a business perspective, I completely agree. When you lose the ability to be fluid, you certainly compromise yourself as a whole.
Everyone knows the spec house builder that threw houses up like mushrooms after a rain, lived like a king, didn't diversify (adopt new capabilities of remodeling, commercial developement, etc.), didn't save money, lived on credit and then quickly went belly up in 2008-9. Some know builders that have been around for decades and have weathered multiple economic storms...most of those guys were smart enough to not tie themselves down to one particular avenue of business and were smart enough not to get over their head in debt.
LSU seems like the 32 year old spec house builder in 2006. Nothing could ever go bad...housing never depreciates or stops...sure I'll buy that Super-Charged Range Rover and build that $2.1m home in the CCLA. I'll be tied down financially, but I'll still be making money hand over fist...oh wait...what happened?

Just for Schlitz and giggles exactly what % of Miles salary do you think you pay? I'll bet if you break it down you pay less than a penny.

Ignoring the fact that you didn't understand what he was posting, just for shits and giggles, even if he donated $100k yearly to TAF, that would only be about 2.5% of Miles's salary. Think about that.

What does it matter what I donate? We are talking about the financial prudence of contractually wedding yourself to any coach for that price.

Miles ship is sinking. Freshman caught drinking last week after the fight ordeal. If he doesn't produce, he's in some shite.

Please tell me tha you aren't that fu cking stupid.
1. What is the Atletic department's gross revenue, including TAF money?
2. What % of total revenue is dedicated to ALL salaries?
3. What % of that is dedicated to football coaches salaries
4. What % of that is dedicated to Miles' salary.
So what we have here is a bunch of idiots pi$$ing and moaning over Miles'salary when in the real scope of things their personal contributions are miniscule.
Think about that. I'm sorry. I asked you to think. My bad.

We like him until he loses a game. Then we hate him until he wins against a big time opponent. Then we like him again until he loses...

I just want to be clear. Are you suggesting that Miles did not make a time management blunder in the 2010 Tennessee game?

UC, when Miles was looking, let's say shaky, last season...ranters and media types were calling for his head. It is a little known, but absolute fact that TAF was secretly freaking out. They couldn't pay his buyout AND go get another $3.5m coach. Unlike our government, the TAF can't print money.
This is not about Miles, it is about eliminating other options if 1998-99 occurs again. Our options are very limited now. That is all...a poor business decision IMHO.

It's 18 mill for this year only. It will decrease next year and continue to decrease every year after that. Unless he totally loses this team, which is unlikely, he is not going anywhere any time soon, or unless there is "Cause". So, his buyout will be nowhere near 18 mill.

I didn't say that the $100k would go directly to Miles salary. I was posting a hypothetical to rebut your ridiculous and irrelevant question about what % of Miles's salary is paid by the OP.

And again, you are arguing against straw men and proving yourself to have poor reading comprehension while calling other people stupid.
And you're this worked up over someone questioning your very well-paid hero.

Just to be clear, did we NOT win the Tennessee game?
I thought so. It was a bad snap; not a time management problem.

B.S. I KNOW they were in fact prepared with the money.

Lsu has played down an up to its competitiin since ive been alive. But majority of teams are just as talented as we are. You think LSu and Bama are the only teams that recruit well?

You have one hell of a coach..let's just hope you don't realize that too late.

Damn IDIOTS!!!! How about cheering for the home team. We have a great coach who has always put good teams on the field. I hope he coaches LSU for 20 more years!!!

You people are still missing the point....THIS IS NOT ABOUT MILES...it is about the financial decision to obligate yourself if you don't have to do so.
Why agree to this buyout amount if you don't have to do so?

You kids that have never been through the ups and down of major programs, just don't understand. LSU
I sat through 7 wins my freshman and sophomore year combined. And, I think that Miles is a mediocre coach. He was a mediocre hire, at best (7-5 record the year we hired him).
That being said, I think that Miles is here until he wants to leave. I would guess that LSU would have put feelers out to the top coaches on their list during the Michigan deal. And, IMO, it is apparent that they couldn't get any bites.
IMO, this is why we are paying him what we are paying him. If he's the best coach that we can have currently, then you better pay to keep him (even with all his faults). It would have sucked to have let him go to Michigan and then have to hire some loser with a 28-21 record at their previous school.
