I honestly never understand the we will be good next year crowd. So much changes from year to year no matter how much of a given you think it is. Enjoy it now. This team has the pieces to make a run. Just need to get everyone healthy.

Also not saying we will be bad next year, just its unknown.

As long as everyone gets back healthy we are a good team this year, idk why anyone's opinion would change about that after Pinson went down and we lost to bamer without Days for 85% of the game.

This, while we wont get back Miller this season, it's stil la VERY good team when healthy otherwise. We've literally had the roster set for what, only 2 of the 7 SEC games so far (not including Miller obviously). Pinson has missed 4 games. Murray missed another game. Days has missed a large chunk of 1 game and a decent chunk of another game.

It's been almost worst case scenario for us injury wise this season especially in SEC play and we're still 3-4 through the toughest conference start maybe for anyone in the country. If we can simply get Pinson back, it's an entirely different team than what we've seen the last couple week.

If Pinson is able to come back this week, I think this is still a 11-7/12-6 type of SEC team in the end. I would say if he still cant come back for an extended time it may be more like a 9-9 maybe even 8-10 SEC team though, he is that important to our success. If we can get to 11-7/12-6 I think we can still see a 3-5 seed. Fact is our NET is still really healthy at 10 right now.

Fudge and Eason are in the top 50 for the draft and Days Graduates-- every year a new team so there is no next year in this sport.

Ugh. What actually constitutes "getting over the hump", JJ? Winning a Natty, or what?

getting past the sweet 16 would be a start

what's your standard? what are you satisfied with? doesn't sound like a whole lot

Well, I'm conversing with you. Interpret that however you may.
Look, top 3 in SEC last 3 years - only school that can say that. Makes the big dance every year and now a true threat vs anybody in the tournament. He's bringing in top recruiting classes/transfers year after year. My Man, that is consistent/sustained success. (and illustrated better by other posters than me)
Am I satisfied with the above? No. I want to see a Natty! Everything/Everybody is in alignment toward that goal now. Hasn't been seen around here for years till he got here.
Can't imagine you'd argue that the NCAA Tournament isn't the toughest Natty to win. Surely you are not saying that if we go to the final 8 one year that that will mean we are "over the hump". Or are you?

For 4 season Wade never deviated from his defensive approach. This, despite the fact his personnel wasn't suited to execute it at a high level. The result was 4 years of bad to really bad defensive teams.

Thats not true. He even said himself on one of the podcasts that they switched the defense before last season to the switching on every screen, matchup zone like defense.

Yep. He can take and make those 3's that EG passes up (thank God) when the defenders are going under the screen. He's also much better at actually scoring on penetration in the lane than EG and Williams.

With you! Could he go this year? Sure, but too many advantages to coming back and moving up on the draft boards.
The low start/arm action on the jumper may not change but he's got to find a way to use it inside the 3 pt line.
He's got to improve the overall range on the 3 pointer - from corner to corner.
His handle trying to get to the rack or get his own jumper is good for college - gotta improve for the NBA.
His only good move is to his right - and sometimes it looks like just a bull rush through traffic. That traffic is a lot stronger at even the next level up.
A year of natural strength plus the weight room will make a difference in his rebounding, and his motor that gets him to balls now will get even stronger.
He's got to figure out moving his feet and not reaching in. You are of little value if you can't stay on the court.
That all said - I love the kid! He's a shoe in for one of the All American teams this year for me. If he still played for Cincinnati or anywhere else I'd still have the same advice.
And isn't the first rounder worth like 12 million more for those first 3 years - plus being guaranteed?
One more year and he can be a for sure lottery pick.

That is his biggest problem that has become more obvious in conference play. He really should stay an extra year and work on his left hand dribble, at least get it somewhat respectable. And I thought a month ago that he would be crazy to not declare.

Thought this defense was gonna help this team get to the Final 4? Didn’t realize it was next season.

This year's team is far more athletic and plays terrific defense and aggressive. Last season's team had better half-court offense and shooting from outside, but I like this team.

If this team holds together the next few seasons and we add new players, then LSU basketball will be special.

You can no longer use the "Next Year" logic in basketball or Football. Your best player can be gone overnight in Transfer portal. You should be trying to contend every year.

No you don’t

Wade has been building for sure, but genuinely next year would be his most talented team he’s ever had.

That said, this year is far from over

Bad luck with injuries this year (and SEC officiating sucks). Team could still get hot if everyone is healthy. Agree that they will be better next year.

This is actually true. You’re watching Murray morph into an All SEC type player right now, and you make your biggest jump from Fr to Soph year. I expect Reid to get bigger and improve a ton. Fudge will be very good next year. Justice Williams should be in high school right now and is getting significant minutes vs top 25 teams. Wade has already said he expects this guy Phillips to be a one and done type talent. Mwani will bring a ton of defense and leadership just needs to develop on offense
