Honest Question... why do our players leave early, constantly and get drafted low

I'm sure every program has this, (except bama it seems) but why are our players hell bent on leaving early, then, not getting drafted where they were expected??
Starting with Matt Mauck after the '03 NC. Goes to Denver and next thing you know is in dental school. Then countless names including Malachi, Tolliver II, and Clapp recently. Do our kids just get bad pre draft advice??
I understand the rb's, but the rest leave me shaking my head.

because when the nfl changed the rookie salary scale it made it so it doesnt matter when u get drafted. its all about gettin to the league early to get to your second contract as fast as possible to maximize your earnings during your prime
and i know some of you guys will find this impossible to believe, but being a full time professional football player year round is actually better for your development than being a "student-athlete" because of restrictions NCAA puts on practice hours

What's the joke?? Mauck had 1 year left

It’s the culture at LSU. Stay 3 and go pro
Posted on 5/19/18 at 7:03 pm to TigerDD3
That’s our recruiting pitch. Get them to the league as quick as possible all else be damned

It's a fine line. We've got quite a few flashy personalities who made it big and do a fabulous job repping LSU. I think it's great but a lot of these kids see these guys and think that they themselves are bigger and better than they really are.
Other thing to remember is for many, school becomes more intense after a couple years of electives.

We recruit poor kids who aren’t suited for the classroom. The appeal of making a couple hundred grand beats one more year of tutors and studying.

Mauck had spent 3 yrs with the Cubs before LSU. Turned 25 a little over a month after the title game and wanted to get on with his life.

That’s a good question hard to answer but some of these guys just don’t like school. They cannot go to NFL out of high school so they go to college till they are draft eligible then head to the draft. I’d say some are also getting bad information from agents or whomever. Football should follow baseball. A kid gets drafted but if he doesn’t like his spot he can choose to come back to college. In football once they declare or get an agent that’s it, they can’t come back

They listen to the wrong people. I’m all for leaving early but not to be picked in rounds 5-7

There's also the La'el Collins, Tredavious Whites, Kendell Beckwiths, etc that stay despite having great draft grades.

This is a lot of it for sure but with the exception of Vanderbilt, that's not unlike any SEC school.

Can you list the countless names other than 3 guys from the last three years?
Posted on 5/19/18 at 7:43 pm to TigerDD3
Because we were losing and it wasn’t worth the risk of getting injuried grinding out 8 and 9 win seasons

Key should have came back and played himself back into the First Round. Key flushed millions down the toilet!

Honest question - is our drug testing protocol mor rigorous than other schools?

Trey Quinn as the last pick in the draft got 2.5 million
the first pick of the 4th round got 3.2 million 150 picks before him. improving draft grade by staying an extra year just isnt worth it. going early and getting a non-rookie contract is worth wayyyy more than trying to improve your draft grade

Because the fans leave early. Why shouldn't they?

nope. he will make more than the $7 million difference he lost by not going in the first round by being in the league an extra year
