Wouldn't it make sense to just get rid of home exemption and lower taxes across the board? Every property would be taxed but at a much lower rate and everyone still pays.

Why do the song and dance of higher taxes and exempting part of the property? It just seems unnecessary.

It will never happen. Their addiction to our money is too great.

We have the highest homestead exemption in the country, how’s that working out?

Get rid of it and lower property tax rates. Everyone should pay something.

Step 1- everybody pays property tax.
Step 2- cap the tax at 75K for homeowners
Step 3- all property owners including homeowners pay property tax on property starting at 250 K.

You get a 175 K exemption if your home is with 250k or more.

Or better yet make it a %…

So doesn’t matter if you live in a $50k or $500k home… everyone pays the same share.
