This is correct. I've seen members of the track team do it for years. I think "bitch I'm from Louisiana" helped make it more popular too. It seemed like a lot of people were throwing L's up when they brought that in as kickoff song.

This is where it began. A looong time ago
While I do remember seeing the ladies track team doing it in the 80s, I've also seen pictures of Charles McClendon era football players throwing up the "L".

Frank Wilson started this when he was doing Boys from the Boot recruiting visits or whatever it was called.

Yeah if you say it like a nerd "Go Tigers" but if you say it like you mean it in a slightly southern drawl "Geaux Tigas" shite is as legit as it gets and I for one use that over the "L" any day. I'll let the players keep that one.
But I'm 40 I'm a Man

Many don't realize that the correct way to display the big "L" for LSU is with the right hand only.

"L" stood for loser when I was growing up. And I left LSU in '11, so it was after that.
I distinctly remember a photo of La'el Collins, Anthony Johnson, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham, and one other bigtime in-state recruit (all c/o 2011) throwing up the "L" at the Under Armour All-American game in January of 2011.

I believe it was Lolo who started it

I cringe every time I see it. One of my kids even said dont they know what that means?

My great uncle, E.A. Chavanne, coach of the LSU Tigers in 1898 was the first to throw the "L". He also went 1-0 in his only year of coaching.

It has been done for years, but I would say it became mainstream when CEO started recruiting as HC

It’s here to stay it seems which is fine with me. Players love hand signals especially to a crowd and fans makes it easy.

it was commonly used before and after the ole miss game( when Eli lost in 4th quarter when stepped on by his center when pushed back by Lavolais)

Cassius March threw them Up in a all American game while he was still committed. So that would have been 2010 ish. Around that time and they’ve been gaining.

Sounds like a Millenial question like everything was recently invented. Long arse time ago is the answer. Cheerleaders were doing it at least back to early 70's
