Hickey posted a picture of himself on instagram with the caption always a tiger and it made me really sad. ugh.

Saw that, it is sad. Don't know the whole truth, but there's been drama there for a while. I'll be sad to see him play in another uniform wherever it goes...and I hope to hell it's not the sec

Not that big of a hit people !

Hammink wasnt contributing

Morgan is coming off a terrible injury

Hickey will be missed. He was limited though, remember the ends of UK and ALA, it kills us to have a point guard who can't penetrate and finish.

ETA: and on Hickey, don't feel bad for him whatsoever. Kid never got his shite together off the court. No reason anyone should fail, they have plenty of help.
With that said, thankful for him always playing hard and hustling

I am almost positive Q is gonna stay now. I think Jones was talking about moving him to an off guard spot with Hickey and Gray in the mix. Now, I am assuming Q will stay at PG and he's cool with his spot.

CJJ was going to put a terrible shooter in an off guard role? Great coaching already.

It could have been one of the only ways to get him on the court. Doesn't mean all that much. Stringer led LSU in assists in plenty of games last year from off guard. He wanted him there for defense and his ability to get into the lane.

Obviously he hopes the shot is developed.

The rumors about Hickey were never serious character questions, just stuff like showing up late to meetings and not going to class.

Every indication is that he's a good guy who just has some organizational issues.

Playing time probably is what spooked Quarterman. He was facing Hickey, Gray
and Hornsby (both 2 years) ahead of him and another scholarship pg to challenge him for
minutes. With Hickey gone he probably starts on the wing where I think he develops into a
Garrett Temple clone.

Hickey wasn't the best student in the world. Not surprising.

Johnny knew he only had to let 1 guy go, right?

Jesus Christ at one being Hickey, definitely tempers my expectations next season.

All our eggs are in the Josh Gray bucket unless Quarterman really steps it up.

LSU coach Johnny Jones has been remolding the basketball program with high-profile recruits since he succeeded Trent Johnson for the 2012-13 season, and on Tuesday he announced more changes: three players, including point guard Anthony Hickey, are no longer with the basketball program. Reserves Shane Hammink and Malik Morgan are the other two players out for the Tigers.

Hickey is the most notable name of the bunch by a significant margin. The 5'11 point guard averaged over 30 minutes per game in each of his three seasons with the Tigers and turned himself into one of the best perimeter defenders in the SEC. Hickey finished third in the nation in steals per game in 2012-13 with 2.9 per game, but he consistently struggled to shoot. Hickey never shot above 39 percent from the field or 58 percent from the foul line in his three seasons with the Tigers. Losing his tenacious defense and senior leadership will hurt, but LSU still has plenty of talent next season.

It all starts in the frontcourt. The Tigers lost 6'9 junior center Johnny O'Bryant III to the NBA, but they're in a unique position to survive the departure of their leading scorer. O'Bryant III will be replaced by incoming freshman Elbert Robinson, who ESPN has rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 6 center in the class. Robinson, a Texas native, is 6'11, 270 pounds and is purported to have a soft touch around the rim. He'll join an LSU front line that includes two big-time sophomores: Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey.

Martin and Mickey were both top-100 recruits a year ago, and each impressed as a freshman. Martin is a bruiser at 6'9, 241 pounds. The No. 11-rated recruit in the class of 2013, Martin averaged 10.3 points per game and 4.6 rebounds last season, and projects as one of the focal points of LSU's offense next season. Mickey might be an even better two-way prospect. He averaged 12.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocks as a freshman. At 6'8, 220 pounds, a frontcourt of Martin, Mickey and Robinson will be as big as any in the country.

What do the Tigers look like in the backcourt and who replaces Hickey? Junior college guard Josh Gray, UNC Asheville transfer Keith Hornsby and incoming freshman Jalyn Patterson will give Jones plenty of options. If he can find a more consistent scoring threat next to sophomore Tim Quarterman, another former top-100 recruit entering his sophomore season, LSU could boast the most dynamic lineup it's had in years.

Since reaching the Final Four in 2006 behind Tyrus Thomas and Glen Davis, LSU has made the NCAA Tournament only once in the last eight seasons. The Tigers have improved their record incrementally in the first two years under Jones. If they can figure out the backcourt, the Tigers are poised to take a leap in the SEC next season.

I thought Johnny Jones was supposed to keep a fairly loaded roster (simply by scholarships), now we will be at only 11 scholarship guys for next year?

Hickey was the only reason we were in the UK away game. He was incredible.

Hickey will be missed by this team a lot more than most seem to think. This looks bad for Jones to me. I think Quartermann has a ton of potential and I'm a big fan of his, but he would have to take a major leap next year. Hickey would've taken a ton of pressure off of him.

I think most people feel like Hickey is a significant loss.

How so? I doubt Jones had it in for Hickey and wanted him out. It's not like he'd get rid of one of our better players just to do it. Personally, I think it speaks a little more about Hickey than Jones. Just an unfortunate situation.

I'm sick of John Brady and Trent Johnson turning over the roster year after year.

The addition of Gray will more than offset the loss, IMO.
