Um, your scenario ignores one obvious fact. If they'd already planned to have the FG team roll then where was it? NOT A SINGLE PLAYER from the FG team headed out to the field. SURELY, they were not ALL confused by the supposed "spike gesture".

Sorry dude. Miles' head was in his arse during the timeout. He didn't have a solid plan and it SHOWED!!!

Why would the kicking team be on the field if a spike play was mistakenly relayed to JJ??

"Um, it was pretty important. If called a fumble, the game is over right there."

um...not if it really wasn't a fumble. any questionable call under two minutes will be reviewed from the booth. doesn't matter if the clock showed 0:00 (which it didn't). so your counterpoint sucks.

look, it's a ridiculous debate anyway. the original poster's scenario is as stupid as the first and second 2pt conversion fade route. wait, actually the second 2pt fade might be worse than this 'scenario'

Um, because if they were told PRIOR to the play that the moment it works, get the frick on the field, it is HIGHLY unlikely that ALL ELEVEN OF EM had the same communication error with Miles that JJ did!!!!

At best, you'd have had JJ waving them back to the sidelines. They would've had ZERO REASON to be looking at Miles upon the completion.

Well, unless of course, Miles made NO frickING PLAN BEFORE THE PLAY!!!!!(which is the truth)

Well I stopped reading here.

Les Miles is the head coach, is he too fricking stupid to see time running off the clock? His priority on the last drive is to make sure the team has as much time as possible. He failed.

it's passing the ball when we are in field goal range that's inexcusable

Your explanation sound logical, but the TO not being called timely and the FG team not being right there and ready are still some pretty big mistakes.

Totally agree, and I actually think the explanation is what actually transpired.

That said, the final minute was a total cluster $#$@* any way we slice it, and regardless of who was responsible for the communication issues, Les Miles gets paid $4 mil a year to shoulder that blame, as he should.

Why is it impossible for you idiots to realize Leslie is the HEAD frickING COACH and the buck stops with him. If we lose like we lost it is his fault I don"t give a shite who he TRIES to blame it on.

Exactly - even if your leadership style is to assign duties and let them get done (i.e. Macro vs. Micro managing), that doesn't mean you don't make the frick sure they DO get done

Coach Miles is a great man and a great coach. I think next year he will guide us thru a great season and possibly even another run at a BCS title.

I AGREE WITH THIS

I am certainly not suggesting Les Miles never makes mistakes. But he is not a dumbass as some here assume.

The delayed call for the last timeout is inexcusable, and that is what really cost us the game. Les absolutely should have caught that. But if he misses something like that, some damn coach should catch it quickly. I think he needs to make significant staff changes after this season.

I predict he will, and next year will be a great one for LSU. We shall see.

Wow...so what you are saying is that Miles can't see the clock going :30, :29, :28, :27, etc. Not sure were Miles got his degree, but I am fairly certain he took Counting 101 and is at least capable of doing that.

Face it dude, back in the day there were people like you saying, "don't fire Dinardo, he is a great man and great coach, I am certain he will get it turned around next year." Bottom line, Miles is the HC and the buck stops with him, for $3.8 mil, he better know if the clock is stopped or not. Miles needs to go sooner rather than later to prevent further damage to the program.

Perhaps a nice way of saying it is that there seems to be a certain disconnect between Miles and what is going on on the field, much more so than what you would expect from high-caliber coaches (Meyer, Saban, Carroll, etc.) I don't think anyone would say that that nightmare last night would be likely to happen under those guys' watch. I don't have examples at my fingertips, but it seems like these kinds of things have happened on more than a few occasions.

Clock management, two-minutes remaining game strategies and being opportunistic are the hallmarks of great coaches. Miles has shown this in the past, especially the roller coaster ride of 2007, but he's lost much of it the last two seasons.

Even ASSUMING everything you said is true, it just makes things worse. Do you think for one FREAKING SECOND that on Meyer's or Saban's sideline they're taking some freaking assistant's word that the timeout has been called??????????????? WTF are you drinking???????????????
