If Petrino would leave Louisville after they rescued him from the scrap heap, it would just confirm what everyone already knows, he's a POS. Ask his former good friend/HC Tubby about him. Ask his former Atlanta Falcons about him. Ask his former AD at Pigville about him. He's won a lot of games. What has he won, title wise?

He's POS because he cheated on his wife then tried to cover it up???

TCU coach Gary Patterson would be the perfect fit. proven winner with slightly above average recruits. He would excel with our recruiting base.

As sad as it is, most people on this board counted out Fisher because of the Louisville loss. One game.

How does playing in a "weaker" conference mean he should have more titles?

As if there are other candidates we could hire that have more Nat'l Championships? The only coaches to win a title in the past 10 years are Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher, and Gus Malzahn.

Serious Question: Why would Herman be #2?

I'm only guessing, but maybe experience. He's in the middle of only his second season as a head coach & Houston was ok when he got there. They were coming off of back to back 8-5 s seasons. Also, maybe there is some concern about getting into a bidding war with other schools. No idea if any of that is true, but that's all I can come up with.

c'mon. The dude can coach. But, there are real character Red Flags:

1) while UL coach....clandestine meeting with AU when AU still had a coach. It is just bad form. Agents should do that shite to keep that distance

2) Left NFL job DURING the season. Just up and left

3) Put the co-ed on payroll against regulations, has serious crash with her on the motorcycle and tell her to leave the scene, LIES to his AD - allows AD to make supporting comments, etc....only to learn it was alie

4) Now, after bending the knee to UL and swearing he isn't leaving again...he would be doing just that.

I'm just saying that when I man reveals his character to you....believe him

The fickleness of the posters regarding Jimbo in this thread is ridiculous. The guy is a VERY GOOD coach in his prime. He is not Saban or Meyer, no. He is better than Miles and has done better than Miles when mirroring their careers, especially what he had to build from. He would be able to recruit at the level Miles has, and with an administration willing to dole out the most money for assistants in the country, he will be able to surround himself with great coordinators.

So he will bring, at least, what Miles brings in those regards. Now, he actually brings something by way of X's and O's and position development... that is at QB. We would be LUCKY to get Fisher. Not to mention it would actually be aesthetically pleasing to watch LSU again, even in rent a win games. There would be no more bullshite like Eastern Michigan last year, which is but one of numerous examples of frustrating play even in wins. Press conferences would actually be coherent and informative. It would be fun to follow LSU again.

I echo what Lester Earl says. My intuition tells me Herman is the next star coach... think what Urban Meyer was able to do at Florida. However, there is a risk we may have to deal with him being a target every other year. Jimbo is a 15 year coach that will have LSU competitive 90% of the time.

Whomever the #1 is, it needs to be someone they can get in the door. If the #1 strings them along a bit, I think Alleva will immediately fall back to someone he knows he can get which will be someone no one here wants or has thought of.

And he announced he had left by putting post it notes on lockers, assistants' doors and the white board of the team room.

That's "Al Copeland" classy.

Yes but it's not the only reason he's a piece of shite. Cheating on his wife, putting his girlfriend on the payroll - those things are just slices of the piece of shite pie that is Bobby Petrino.

UH has more $$$ than LSU (Fertidda $$$). So if Jimbo is their top target, I'd understand.
not, even with big 12 money. You're freaking stupid as UH has to use academic funds - not athletic only - to pay their staff.

Lsu fans should be thrilled if we hire either of those guys. Personally would rather have Herman.

Tiger1988, you don't really think UH is paying that, do you?

From Bloomberg last year on Herman's last raise:

quote:

The proposed salary bump will be funded by auxiliary revenue and donations, many of which have already been raised, according to Fertitta. No state funds will be used, he said. Of the department’s $45.4 million budget in the fiscal year ended August 2015, $11.3 million -- 25% -- was spent on football, according to data schools submit to the U.S. Department of Education.

Also:

quote:

"Our Tier One University has a nationally relevant football program, and we will keep it that way," said Chairman of the University of Houston system and billionaire restaurateur Tilman Fertitta.
