You just mentioned at least a handful of coaches that would have been better hires than what we ended up with to lead the program.
Be patient and come back in 5 years. Guess the same applies to football and basketball.

Johnson took 2 of 3 from a pretty good FL team on the road. They were terrible against A&M and lost the first game of the Auburn series in a close game. The biggest issue I have with JJ is he had guys playing out of position defensively at the beginning of the season and still hasn’t shored up the middle infielders. The lack of pitching isn’t something that can be put on him this year but he has made some strange moves there as well.

I think this team will get better as the season goes on. It’s way too early to talk about his hiring being a mistake. Lot’s of things can still happen like the FL sweep. New coaches don’t always come in and mesh right away with players. I hope it’s different with Kelly but Kelly is a much more experienced coach too.

Its not Johnson they hate, its Woodward. Unfortunately Johnson is collateral damage..

V has a tenured; experienced team he built. He likes it in Tennessee, has no interest in leaving. Johnson has only worked halfway through the season with some typical baseball expectations. He should at least get two years to develop and produce.

If he got emotional about that and that ended up being something that stopped sjw Scotty from wanting Vitello than he isn’t worth his salt as an AD. You can’t get emotional when making a decision for a championship program.

I think it’s a little early to judge JJ.

You are comparing a coach on his 5th year at a program that has never won a CWS game to a coach on his first year here that has won multiple games at the CWS. Johnson will be fine. Let him recruit his team and build it

I could be wrong but I believe Vitello will get to the top and probably win a title, but the emotion that steers him will lead to a epic crash afterwards.

Despite what the P&G clowns are feeding you, JJ was a shite hire and we’ll revisit these threads in 2-3 years.

There will always be a group on here quick to say that whatever coach we hired was a shite hire, and the only coach we should have gone after is the flavor of the month who’s team is number 1 at the time. Before vitello it was Corbin.

This is the rational view.

How’d he do in his first season compared to what Jay is doing right now?

I’m not a Woodward hater, but I never thought Vitello was a Woodward type of candidate. Rumor was that Woody had no interest in Lane Kiffin. There are some similarities between the two. Brash, single, and not afraid to talk shite. That being said, Vitello is doing a phenomenal job at Tennessee and would have done so here as well.

Got to give JJ a couple of years but comparing his teams’ defensive statistics at ARZ and now LSU is troubling. Teams in the SEC are far too talented to be giving them extra outs and it is happening almost every game.

Should have been Vitelleaux

How do you make someone come work for you. Don't tell me $$. Do you think money was an abject. Maybe the other guys didn't want the pressure of dealing with fan base that expects championships every year.

Hell LSU fans used to bitch about Bertman losing mid week games.

Vitello didn’t light the world on fire at first either. Let Jay get his guys in here and rebuild the culture as he wants. It’s year 1.

I think if he stays the course we’ll be awesome for years to come. Our fans need to learn patience.

Vitello would've been a much better option. His recruiting with the pull LSU already has would've been crazy. I have no idea why Woodward didn't even attempt to get him.

Was Vitello even interested in coaching at LSU?

Johnson is in his first year as head coach at LSU, and no one can even predict how this season ends up, but saying we should have hired a coach who wasn’t even interested in the job, is asinine at best.

Until they win something, all speculation

We're too impatient as baseball fans. Go see what Vitello did his 1st two seasons.

He didn’t want to come here. It’s been documented. It takes two to tango.
