According to Dandy Don,
Nick Saban - $5,997, 349
Mack Brown - $5,161,500
Bob Stoops - $4,375,000
Urban Meyer - $4,010,000 (retired)
Les Miles - $3,905,000
Jim Tressel - $3,888,389
Kirk Ferentz - $3,781,000
Jim Grobe - $2,939,475 (Wake Forest)
Mark Richt - $2,937,740
Bobby Petrino - $2,713,000

Is it crazy or classy Joe Pa is not on this list. Isn't he the all time most winning coach? Way to go Less, if we win the title next year do you think he gets a raise?

I don't know what provisions Miles new contract will provide but his agent had negotiated a great one before.Under Miles old contract his salary had to be in the top 5 paid coaches in college football(exactly where he's listed)and if he wins the NC he will become the highest paid coach by one dollar. If he wins 10 regular season games he gets an automatic extention.I never thought he would leave LSU because no coach in America had a better contract. At age 57 with his contract he would have to be a fool to walk away and a fool he isn't.What an agent he has to get LSU to agree to such a contract. Can't wait to see the new contract.

this. I honestly don't think that man has actually coached a game in about 3 years. His assistants should be the highest paid in football because i'm sure they do more work than any others.

Don't forget about USCw that doesn't report coach's salaries.

JoePa is still a hell of a recruitment tool though. His name is enough to make a lot of people listen.

This thread reminds me of that report they had one ESPN last week about black coaches being paid less than white coaches. I didn't get to listen to it, but it looked like they were comparing coaches who have won NC's and coaches at small schools like Southern. Very unfair compairson if that was what they were saying.

mack brings in serious $ to UT and has transformed their entire athletic department with the money

iowa has to decide if they want a solid team who will have mostly good years, but shite years (offset by about the same # of great years) for $3M per year or a shitty team with a few years for $1.5M per

I don't fully disagree with this, but I will point this out.

Since crap years in 2003-2004 (combined record of 7-16), Paterno is 58-19 with 2 conference titles and 4 bowl wins (1-1 in BCS games), and 3 top 10 finishes. It's not like PSU has been awful since 2003 and he just won't let go. They've won 9 games 5 times (same with LSU) and 11 games 3 times (one fewer time than LSU).

the fact that paterno does nothing and keeps PSU from having a full set of coaches in itself is hurting the program

he should move into the administration. he could still be involved, just not in coaches meetings, etc

That's fair, and why I don't fully disagree with you. But, you have to agree that winning 9+ games a year even with those noted limitations is better than him hanging on to the job and only winning 4 games a year.

Ill go with June Jones' 2.1M at SMU as the most overpaid.

I'm happy Saban is getting paid so much. When he loses 3 or more games again this year the Gumps will get restless.

I dont get the fricking hurry with Joe Pa. The guy has been there 50 years, is one of the games all time greats, still a force in recruiting, and still posting very good seasons and good bowl numbers. Whats a couple of years?

I love a bunch of couch coaches from 9 states away running Paterno out!!

If anything one could argue that Mack Brown in underpaid. Texas is the highest revenue producing athletic department in the country by a landslide. I think last year it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $140M. Most of which can be directly attributed to Mack's 9 straight 10 win seasons. How is he "grossly overpaid"?

1.03 last year apparently with a $500k base

I remember watching something about him.. he still lives in like a $150k house.. he really doesn't care about the money all that much

\I also think I remember reading a while ago that he donates most of what he does make back to the university...

He won one MNC thanks to Vince Young's superhuman effort and he has been Bob Stoop's bitch most of the time.
