not only that but the guys that are drafted higher but aren’t performing as good as lower picks will get every chance to keep going while others are cut just so the GM can save face

That’s pretty sobering
But not at all surprising

Yeah, I thought the same thing.
There's no way the correlation is that tight naturally.

Plus the Dominicans, Cubans, Japanese players aren’t even in the draft

Beat me to it. 100% correct. Many are only given a shot due to the large signing bonus invested in them. And that shot doesn’t last all that long.

And most MLB all-star caliber players play for 12+ years and HOF caliber players usually 18-20+ years.
A lot of turnover at the bottom of the rosters but not much year to year at the top. Only about ~200-250 roster spots turnover each year and are being pursued by most of the minor league players from the last 6 to 8 years of drafts and the international free-agents.

As it turns out, it’s really hard to be a big leaguer.
And a lot of those guys who “made it” have career stats like .118 BA 4 H 1 RBi

Wonder how many of those 1st rounders deserve to be called up or just sent there for a showing to just save face that we drafted a bust. I see some of these prospects' stats in the minors and wonder how they made it all the way up to the show

Go look at all the first rounders in a given year and see how many names you have never heard of. It’s pretty impressive

Kramer Robertson is a prime example. He was an All American in 2017 and 4th round pick.
He’s been bouncing around the minor leagues for 5 years and has not been able to crack a major league line up except for brief call ups.

Plus that counts that some of the high picks have in their contracts that they have to be called up to the big leagues by a certain year

I’m not trying to act like a know it all, but didn’t people know this already? Look at how many players get drafted annually vs how many spots are available on big league rosters

You could spit out the percentages per round?
Posted on 7/11/23 at 9:47 pm to tigerskin
No, but people are saying it’s sobering. LSU has had SEC POY’s that didn’t even sniff the bigs.
As crazy as it sounds, there’s a not-insignificant chance that Dylan Crews never makes it

I will also add that 1st rounders are typically looked at as having a multiple skill set. So people really understand why they were taken and are willing to see if they can find their way.
So a 1st rounder like a pitcher may not develop as a starter might after 2-3 years they may be viable as middle relief...A first round hitter might still be a good piece of the bench to PH or play against righties or lefties.
