Heck, HT over JJ by a mile.

IMHO, I would take JL over JJ now. In every game JJ started last year, we knew that JJ will give the other teams an extra possession by throwing interception.

LM has a want for JJ younger brother to play for LSU, that was why he refused to bench JJ .

Herb Tyler was a more complete quarterback, I'll take Herb.

Under Herb, LSU's offense was not ranked over 100.

This discussion has lasted way longer than
I thought. IMO, we would have one it all last
Year if we had HT. All we needed was a game manager like both Matt's did for us.

Herb would have looked about the same under Crowton as JJ did. . .they had similar skill sets, but JJ has better size. Herb was a bit better runner.

That is a bunch of crap. Show me the game where Herb put up 4 total yards of offense against the likes of McNeese St or 47 total yards against ULM.

Herb may not have thrown a great deep ball but I guarantee he wouldnt look totally inept throwing the bubble screen.

I can bet Herb wouldnt have sat in the shotgun letting the clock tick down against Tenn and I know I never saw Herb on the sidelines sulking and pouting because his backup was outplaying him. I seriously doubt Herb would be quoted as saying He deserves to start because he has been here for three years.

I'd pick Herb. Leadership is the biggest plus for any quarterback if they have any talent at all. Look at Brees. He's too short (according to the NFL) to be a successful qb, and yet, he is. It's his leadership.

Tyler had it. I'd take him for my team. JJ, IMHO, does not. Like one poster said, we never saw Tyler upset b/c his backup was having a better outing or even one better throw than he had.

But Herb was essentially the same player.

I disagree.

Herb Tyler had a better "head" for the game of football than does JJ.

He also was a more accurate passer and had something JJ doesnt have "touch".

Going into HT's Sr year, ...

Gong into JJ's Sr year, ...

That's really depressing.

Herb's Sr year, LSU went 4-7. After having a 9-3 record the previous season, and being tagged as the favorite to win the west. And after having replaced one of the coordinators.

Sounds exactly where we are today. So JJ could produce the same Sr results, is what you're saying?

Fortunately or unfortunately the main reason for LSU's demise Herb's Sr season was Lou Tepper as DC. Herb produced a ton of points on offense just had a horrible defensive scheme to overcome.

I really dont think at his worst JJ could cost LSU more than 3 games and am sure by then even Miles would pull him for Mett.

Because you would have preferred the 4 loss '09 season, or the possible 5 loss team from last yr that a Lee-less season would have produced??

:wow:

I appreciate what Lee did for the team last year. I like Lee. Was so happy to see him get a little redemption. But I was just pointing out the flaw in logic of wanting Lee to start because you're afraid of JJ's interceptions.

Well, since I am neither a Nervous Nancy or a Cliff Jumper, I'm not forcasting the doom of a 4 win season.

What I will do, is to wait till both QBs referenced in this thread have had the chance to play their Sr seasons before I decide their peckin' order in LSU history.

And where we, LSU football, are today is coming off an 11 win season, a blow out win in the Cotton bowl, and a Top 8 national ranking.

I don't find anything "depressing" bout that, but if you want to.....knock yourself out.

you have to admit Lee has turned the corner on the ints

'08 - 17:1
'09 - 40:1
'10 - 89:1

Whereas JJ is going in the opposite direction
'08 - 73:1
'09 - 42:1
'10 - 21:1

Too much was asked of JL way too soon.

Too much was asked of JJ way too soon.

They both strapped it up for LSU football and have done the best they could and to this point in time that best has been to QB LSU to 20 wins in the past two seasons and a Top 8 NR in 2010.

They may have their short comings, but they and the teams have gotton the job done more times than not and they will always have my thanks for their efforts.

What exaftly was asked of jj too soon?

Actsilly his soph season wasn't horrible, last season on the other hand....
Fact is jj has gotten worse instead of better
Jlee is a better qb today than when he started

I'd be all for jlee starting all year

How many 18 yr olds have you seen starting at QB for LSU or any other SEC football program?

Matt Stafford
Jay Cutler
Tyler Bray
David Greene

just to name a few....

Now he did start 2 games in 08 and his first season as a starter was as a 19 year old QB.... now the list of first time 19 year old QB's would be even longer.
