Jayden Daniels, LSU
Team Record: 9-3
Teams with over 8 wins faced: 4 (FSU, OM, Mizzou, Bama)
Combined record of all teams faced: 86-56
Passing Yards: 3812 on 327 attempts = 11.65 yards per attempt
Rushing Yards: 1134 on 135 rushes = 8.4 yards per rush
Total Yards: 4946 on 462 touches = 10.7 yards per touch
50 Touchdowns

Bo Nix, Oregon
Team Record: 11-1
Teams with over 8 wins faced: 1 (Wash)
Combined record of all teams faced: 71-72 (if Cal wins tonight, 70-73 if not)
Passing Yards: 3906 on 401 attempts = 9.74 yards per attempt
Rushing Yards: 159 on 47 rushes = 3.38 yards per rush
Total Yards: 4065 yards on 448 touches = 9.07 yards per attempt
43 Touchdowns
Would need to have 14 attempts/rushes next week for an average of an average of 69.2 yards each just to match Daniels' 12 game total.

Michael Penix, Washington
Team Record: 12-0
Teams with over 8 wins faced: 2 (Arizona, Oregon)
Combined record of all teams faced: 75-69 (if Cal wins tonight, 74-70 if not)
Passing Yards: 3695 on 394 attempts = 9.37 yards per attempt
Rushing Yards: -5 on 23 rushes = -0.21 yards per rush
Total Yards: 3690 on 417 touches = 8.84 yards per touch
41 Touchdowns
Would need to have 45 attempts/rushes next week for an average of 27.9 yards each just to match Daniels' 12 game total.

Want to take away all games against non power 5 teams? Okay...
Daniels - 2851 passing, 1003 rushing, 3854 total. 33 TD. 9 games
Nix - 3372 passing, 145 rushing, 3517 total. 37 TD. 10 games
Penix - 2836 passing, -14 rushing, 2822 total. 25 TD. 10 games

Replace any of our OOC games with a Pac12 rent-a-win like Colorado, Stanford, Washington State, or Arizona State to give us a 10th game, and I'd bet the yardage differential would be even worse because Jayden actually took it easy on Grambling and Army...they were his two lowest games of the year by yardage.

Just for shits and gigs, here's stats of the last 5 QBs to win the Heisman through 12 game regular season

2022 Caleb Williams - 3712 passing yards on 407 attempts (9.12 ypa), 34 TDs, 351 rush yards on 97 attempts (3.61 ypc), 10 TDs. Totals: 4063 yards on 504 touches (8.06 ypt), 44 TDs.

2021 Bryce Young - 3901 passing yards on 418 attempts (9.33 ypa), 40 TDs, -9 rush yards on 68 attempts (-0.13 ypc), 3 TDs. Totals: 3892 yards on 486 touches (8 ypt), 43 TDs.

2019 Joe Burrow - 4366 passing yards on 401 attempts (10.88 ypa), 44 TDs, 248 rush yards on 85 attempts (2.91 ypc), 3 TDs. Totals: 4614 yards on 486 touches (9.49 ypt), 47 TDs.

2018 Kyler Murray - 3674 passing yards on 306 attempts (12 ypa), 37 TDs, 853 rush yards on 113 attempts (7.54 ypc), 11 TDs. Totals: 4527 yards on 419 touches (10.8 ypt), 48 TDs.

2017 Baker Mayfield - 4097 passing yards on 346 attempts (11.84 ypa), 37 TDs, 244 rush yards on 79 attempts (3.08 ypc), 5 TDs. Totals: 4341 yards on 425 touches (10.21 ypt), 42 TDs.

2023 Jayden Daniels - 3812 passing yards on 327 attempts (11.65 ypa), 40 TDs, 1134 rush yards on 135 attempts (8.4 ypc), 10 TDs. Totals: 4946 yards on 462 touches (10.7 ypt), 50 TDs.

Jayden Daniels faced much better competition than Penix and Nix all year long, put up stats that aren't even in the same league as either of them, put up more yards and touchdowns than ANY of the last 5 Heisman winning QB's in their 12 game regular seasons...the ONLY argument they have against him is team success because his defense can't hold anybody with a pulse under 40. Nothing Daniels can do about that. If team success is the bar we are holding guys to, the only person on that list of previous Heisman winners worthy of the award is Joe, because he's the only MFer on the list to go undefeated and win the National Championship in his season. Guaran-damn-tee that Nix and Penix won't be joining Joe on that list because they will get cock smoked by Alabama or Georgia.

But what does Ryan Leaf has to say about this? This seems to carry a lot of weight in the west coast,

ETA great collection of stats. Even with an extra game Nix probably won't pass JD.

aTm's first drive is indicative of how our defense held JD back. They took up 9 minutes of the clock. This defense has so few 3 and outs, even against non-power 5 schools. JD is losing out on a couple of possessions per game. How sick would his stats be if the defense could get the ball back in his hands quicker?

Just saw sportscenter with Milroe as a 4th heisman contender. Lol. I didn’t know that playing great for a 1/3 of your season gets you votes. Lol. Ridiculous

I agree with everything you said except one thing. Bama is not gonna be in the playoffs!

Great post thanks for putting together.

What I think does it is this:
quote:

Jayden Daniels faced much better competition than Penix and Nix all year long

I mean wasn’t our schedule right near the top as being the toughest. So you’re telling me his stats are better and played stiffer competition. Where is the debate? Give him the trophy!!!

If he didn't play for Bama, you wouldn't hear a word. JD5, Nix, Penix, and Caleb Williams are all going to the NFL after this year. You will hear all about the push for Milroe for Heisman all off-season and next season. If LSU had a competent DC and protected against him running, his numbers would have looked alot different. Shut down his running and you shut down him. He is not there as a passer.

JD5 improved alot as a passer this year and you see the results. He is not just a runner and throws the deep ball like Milroe.

Crazy thing is, JD took quite a few sacks and I’m pretty sure that goes against rush yardage in college. No telling how badly that messed up his average.

Add this to the argument:

By having such an horrendous defense, it kept Jayden Daniels from having more drives, thus more statistics, against opponents! Therefore, if he had a decent defense, his numbers would have been much better! Ponder that thought!

Yesterday, LSU put up 42 points on 48 plays. I think the Aggies had 78 offensive plays! That game would have been a blowout with a decent defense.

Looking at all of those numbers, Murray is the only comparison throwing + running.

Daniels has either exceeded or nearly matched Murray's numbers playing a much tougher schedule than Murray did.

2018 Oklahoma played only #12 West Virginia and #19 Texas as ranked opponents in the regular season.

I’ve seen Oregon play a couple of times this year and what I noticed is that Nix throws a lot of screens and smoke routes where the yardage gained has very little to do with his actual throw. It’s all dependent on blocking and the RB or WR.

JB, thanks for all this info! You did all the hard work. The guys in our families love these types of stats. Based on your data, Daniels should win it hands down.

Let's not forget that he would be holding a clip board in the PAC 12, except for when he was in the PAC 12 and beat both Oregon and Washington.

That was as clueless of a talking head moment as Cowherd asking Urban why he didn't recruit Burrow.

You don't actually believe 50% of the Heisman voters look into it in that much detail do you? Bo Nix? What's Oregon's record? In the playoff? "Oh yeah, he's going into my 1 slot."
