Is this because people aren't getting the vaccine or because the vaccine is ineffective?

It because the vaccine causes the flu

Friend of mine up in West Monroe said yesterday that 500 kids were out of school up there (wonder how many were actually sick and how many stayed home to avoid it or skip).

Article I read on Baton Rouge was quoting CVS or Walgreen's in that they track the number of prescriptions filled for TamiFlu or some such.

It doesn’t help contain colds and flu when parents send kids to school sick. Have a lot of friends in the school system. Seems they’or their kids are sick all the time. Hell with that.

“It because the vaccine causes the flu”

This is true, but only within the flat earth community.

I’ve heard the strain is different than what’s in the vaccine

Ascension schools plan on disinfecting everything next week when kids are out

I’d think it’s worst in elementary & middle schools, no source just what I’m hearing from friends

Influenza A viruses are divided into subtypes based on two proteins on the surface of the virus: hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N). There are 18 different hemagglutinin subtypes and 11 different neuraminidase subtypes (H1 through H18 and N1 through N11, respectively). While there are potentially 198 different influenza A subtype combinations, only 131 subtypes have been detected in nature. Current subtypes of influenza A viruses that routinely circulate in people include: A(H1N1) and A(H3N2). Influenza A subtypes can be further broken down into different genetic “clades” and “sub-clades.” See the “Influenza Viruses” graphic below for a visual depiction of these classifications

Trying to vaccinate for the flu is like hitting a moving target.

I’m no doctor though.

Some of the crap people post, the flu booster is rare in causing a flu symptom. Warm, cold wet damp weather is causing lots of colds, not flu. geez, people.

My daughter was one of the ones sick and my dad is a principal in the parish school system and he said it went from 400 out on Monday/Tuesday to nearly 1,000 out by Thursday(a little over 2,200 students total at the school). I’m sure some were kept home to keep them from getting sick, but the numbers were crazy. They made sure they kept the school open though since they had a playoff game Thursday night.

This. Each year the vaccine is really an educated guess on what the strain will be based off of the previous year. Last year was a bad mismatch, and apparently this year is too.

In reality not getting the flu shot as early as possible does not give the immune system to effectively fight the virus after exposure. That said the prevalence of flu in the population is INDIRECTLY proportional to the number of people who receive the flu shot in any population.

I get that thinking the vaccine would cause you to get the flu is silly.

But it’s also silly to believe the vaccine will prevent it.

Are the odds in your favor either way?

It's called "herd immunity". Its the reason vaccination works
