I had two grandsons who were in the LSU band. Watching them perform/wear that uniform were some of the proudest moments of my life.

At least Rob Dowie knows and will respect the traditions of Tiger Band.

That's not the issue....The streets on gameday are lined with people who know and respect the traditions of Tiger Band, but that does NOT make them qualified to run the band.

I marched with you, my first year was Wickes first year.

In fact, I auditioned with Edmunds, Wickes hadn't been hired yet.

I know you won't remember it, but I saw you that summer at a DCI show in Chalmette, you had on a Tiger Band shirt, and I asked if a new director had been hired, and you let me know about Wickes.

That would have been the smart move....but there was/is no way that Corey Spurlin would EVER work under Damon Talley. Corey is very aware of what Damon Talley has done to destroy the legacy of the program. Corey is also aware of how poorly Damon Talley treated Frank Wickes before he passed away. Regardless of salary/incentive offered by LSU to hire a really good director for the Tiger Band, nobody with any brains would work for/with Damon Talley.....yes, he is that bad.

The “visiting director of bands” dude from Texas is all about DEI. That’s why he’s at LSU.

It's in his bio.
WTF is DEI?

I absolutely do remember that meeting at the DCI show at Chalmette High School.

I don't drink, so all of my brain cells are intact and I have a good memory of minor events like that.

You played Sax in Tiger Band?

They basically took a former drum major who wasn’t actually a music major and created some position for him years ago. The guy being “Assistant Director of Bands” is an insult to any music teacher, even someone teaching inner city EBR schools.
It's an embarrassment to the entire program, courtesy of one Damon Talley.

I guess it's OK to hire him (Dowie) as General Manager for Tiger Band, but Assistant Director of Bands? No Fricking way!

Hey, did they advertise for that position (General Manager) and interview other interested candidates? Not that I know of. I would have absolutely been interested. I have a stronger Post-LSU band background than does Rob Dowie and my Tiger Band Resume speaks for itself.

If the LSU Band Department didn't advertise for that position, (General Manager of Tiger Band) they could have violated State hiring laws/guidelines. (The same situation that just happened with Simon Holoweiko being promoted without other interested candidates being allowed to apply/interview)

I'm looking into that right now, with the same Attorney that helped us out with legal advise during all of this.

During this entire process, I've talked to a lot of my Tiger Band Alum buddy's and other TBA's that I didn't march with. The general consensus is that Daman Talley is is totally responsible for this mess and needs to go. We got rid of Queen, so it's now "One down and one to Go".......

If he’s that valuable to the staff, then it needs to be in a capacity that doesn’t have the words “band” and “director” next to each other.

Honestly, him sliding up into that position tells you all you need to know about the current status of Tiger Band. You shouldn’t need a specialist to teach courses in leadership. The actual musical directors should demonstrate that daily, and be able to teach that themselves. I can’t imagine someone like Wickes or Linda would need to allow a non-degreed (musically speaking) staff member to teach something like that.

Was Queen forced out, or did he leave voluntarily?

Only problem is that he (Corey Spurlin, Assoc DOB @ Auburn) is a Moorhouse/Wickes/Roy King alum and a rumor that still floats around from time-to-time is that Moorhouse & Talley @ LSU didn't get along very well. Band has been on the decline since the LSU SOM took over.

ABSOLUTELY!

Hey TBA's and others on here.

All the Ultra Tiger Band Sunshine Pumpers on the TB Alumni site have got a hold of this thread and are going ballistic.

Battle Royale over there between "TGBFTL Realists" and "TGBFTL Sunshine Pumpers and MA's." (Just like an LSU football discussion on the Rant)

Good stuff!

Except....on the TB alumni FB page, you are not allowed to voice any opinion the moderators disagree with. Kinda sounds like fascism.
