I really hate when people use this argument. Kid has to figure out what is best for him and his family. He can always go to college.

$950 grand could pay for about 150 years of tuition at LSU

$950,000 after taxes is not that much.
Count Von Rosenburg should demand at least $2 million.

Some people put their dreams before money and some other's have a higher purpose.

Hell..even 950K doesnt set you up for life or anything. It's really not that much if you've dreamed of playing for LSU and going to Omaha. If 950k could sway him from his dream of going to Omaha with LSU...then that's kinda sad.

For a kid to turn down almost a million bucks so he can take a chance on getting hurt and never playing again is just plain stupid. I want ZVR at LSU as much as anyone but he won't turn down $950,000. If he does, he is getting some really bad career advice.
How much would he make after 2 years of quality coaching at LSU?
A million bucks is low first round money. Not much room for improvement and plenty of room for downside.

uhh.. the coaching in minor league ball is uhmm second to none.
You're missing the point Goober. What he is stating is that if successful at LSU, his siging bonus then, could be much, much, larger. Just because you make it to the minors is certainly no guarantee that you will make it to the majors and earn substantially more. He has to weigh where he believes he will be in two years and what the signing bonus would be then vs. now. He's only going to get one shot at that initial signing bonus, which is guaranteed money, so as far as the money is concerned, he needs to take the track that he believes will get him the most.

It all depends on how much money he can expect to make after three years at LSU. In most cases, the biggest contract that hotshot prospects get is their signing bonus. Way fewer kids pan out in baseball, so I can understand if ZvR wants to go pro for $950k.
That being said, I bet Ranaudo will get a lot more than $950k next year, and that is something to consider. Mainieri doesn't wear down his pitchers like Bertman did either, so that is a further incentive to coming to LSU.
