eh
A&M, Florida, Auburn...all of these teams have comparable talent to LSU and Miles has had plenty of success against them

Miles has been a more successful coach than Harbaugh.
If you want to state the obvious and say that Saban is the best in the business and for whatever reason bring Miles into the conversation, then okay, whatever.
But spare me the Harbaugh hype until he has the hardware that Miles has earned.
I'd take Jim Harbaugh in a heartbeat. He's a prickly arse and wears out his welcome after 4 years, but he's a very, very good coach. Look at his college records:
San Diego State
7-4
11-1
11-1
Stanford
4-8
5-7
8-5
12-1
Michigan
10-3
3-0

Don't care what he says, Dan Patrick is annoying as all hell. He's weird.

Duh which is why this should be his last year.

Even the guy that posted after you has come around to the fact that Miles must go...but the guy you responded to is either too prideful or stupid to get where nearly everyone else has on this board.

Talked with a family friend yesterday that played ball in the SEC. His assessment, FWIW, was not talent or coaching that has been killing LSU in football as of late. It's the lack of senior players in the trenches. Guys bolting for the NFL the past five years has really killed the Tigers when they go up against teams like Alabama that are mostly starting juniors and seniors on their line. Putting freshmen and sophomores up against guys that have four years in the program is asking boys to go up against grown men in most cases.

Dan Patrick is an outspoken liberal, ie. an idiot. He is only here for our entertainment.

The national media finally seeing what others have been saying for years

He is also being true to the players he is recruiting. He gets them ready for the NFL. That is for sure. Isn't that part of his job as well? Jarvis Landry basically said that he didn't have to learn anything his rookie year. It was the same system. Who does a better job of getting guys a career than Les? He recruits, competes and puts his guys in good position. You need everything to work just right to beat the likes of Alabama.

I'll agree to an extent
but there have been plenty of coaches they have recruited at a high level that couldn't coach, like Zook and Muschamp, and they did not last as long as Miles
if Miles truly couldn't coach, he wouldn't have had the longevity that he has had because it normally catches up with them really quick
Mostly agree. Miles walked into about as cherry a situation as any coach in the history of college football and also has an entire state rich in football talent to himself.
Malleveto, 1/9, and 12 years no QB development is the knock on Miles. And he hasn't beaten Saban in half a decade with equal if not better NFL type talent.
It is what it is. But guy can recruit.

To a point...when you look at all three mentioned, LSU is still ahead of all of them year over year.

Having to watch Les' shite show of an offense and his creepy affection to JJ & BH over the past few years has definitely taken a lot of fun out of watching LSU play. And why the frick that doofus wears a jacket in 100 degree weather, is just stupid & ignorant.

quote:I agree with that. It all comes down to expectations, and some imposed on Miles are unfair. But that's the thing, Miles as a football coach will always have expectations imposed on him. It's just the way it is.
I agree with this to a point...Miles has a come up with a football strategy that allows him to take advantage of athletic superiority, but lacks the imagination to compete with comparable talent. With the recruiting classes he has put together over time (albeit not every year), he has done well, if going to a near New Year's day bowl is your ambition.
It took the Honey Badger and a spectacular defense for 2011 to happen. Maybe a QB being suspended... no one knows that for sure. A coach can't manufacture that very often as opposed to the other things that make great coaches great. Hence, LSU will always be "good" with Miles, add in the very good recruiting that I do give Miles a lot of credit for then LSU can be "very good". To be great, and meet the expectations, you have to be "very good" year after year after year. That's why a Miles coached team won't be great, the valleys and peaks. So, again, where are the expectations. Win the West over 50% of the time? I'd say yes. That's realistic and would be considered "great" if you factor in the boogabear we share the West with. If you win the West 50% of the time. That means the "great" midget over there isn't winning more than you.

It's a perception issue. LSU has the most players in the NFL, yet over the last four years or so, LSU has only been "good" but not great. People look at the talent and say really only Bama and OSU have comparable overall talent. However, those two programs have gotten to or been in the playoff hunt seemingly every year while LSU hasn't. More importantly, they see LSU fall short largely because of the same issues (an inefficient offense) with no apparent motivation to fix the problem.
Les lost a lot of his national supporters after the Wisconsin game. He nearly got fired last year (which the national media thought was unfair). Then, at the start of 2016 his team came out and had the SAME EXACT PROBLEMS that hampered them at the end of 2015. Only this time his team had much more preseason hype to start the year. It was as if he picked up right where he left off in 2015 and showed no desire/ability to make the necessary adjustments.
Unfortunately for Les he has/will always be compared to his predecessor (Saban). As a result, the perception of his coaching ability is probably unfairly skewed to the negative. Plus, Harbaugh, Saban, Meyer get the benefit of having been very successful at more than one school/team. Fair or not, Les is looked at as a guy who was handed the keys to a Ferrari and been able to maintain it, rather than a guy who has built up a once struggling program.

A mannequin could recruit LSU football.
The school recruits itself.
Dan is wrong- Miles can't do either.
