...on LSU's official Citrus Bowl depth chart?

Do we think that produces anything? He seems to have done a decent job of pass rush when we've blitzed him in the past.

Or do you think we just put Perkins there all game and Jones never actually sees the field?

Also: Quincy Wiggins and Tygee Hill are listed as backups at Jack and DE and at DT and NG, respectively. Think those guys do anything in the game?

I think it’s the position he should have been playing

Yeah I posted about it in a depth chart thread the other day. He was always better as an edge player IMO. I hope he balls out, seems like a good dude.

I think it’s something they may be trying out to see if he may be able to play better at that position next season

Jones fits best at jack, really. Unfortunately, so does Perkins. I think the goal may be to find a way to rotate Perkins inside and out next season to keep teams guessing - when teams knew where he would be, they could get him caught up in traffic. He will run into the same problem on the inside but it will help if teams expect him outside when he's inside and vice versa. Our interior should eat up most of the blocks next season, though - with the guys we have on the interior, if teams try to just go man on man, we will be all over the backfield inside and out. Secondary play will be key in both pass and run - they have to be able to tackle because teams will want to stretch the run out.

ETA: I really think Matt House is perfect for this kind of diverse skill set. He knows how to get guys in the best position, move them interchangeably, and now he's had a year to look at all of it.

Missed that, sorry.

Jones intrigues me a little. He came here because he was hoping to turn himself into a middle linebacker and boost his NFL stock and it's safe to say that's been a disaster.

And he already walked on Senior Day, which would indicate he plans to move on after this year. But we're sitting on Swinson, 205-pound Zavier Carter and DaShawn Womack at Jack for next year, and Jones is almost certainly looking at lesser options than LSU if he either tries to go pro or enters the portal.

So if he does ball out, what then? Does he maybe change his mind and come back, and if so, do you now have a bit more depth at Jack than you thought? Instead of figuring that you're going to have a true freshman starting there next year, are you going to have a senior instead?

It's sort of an interesting dynamic to the Citrus Bowl. And given that everybody has talked about what a good guy Jones is, maybe he ends up being a great story for 2023 like Eric Alexander and Carnell Stewart and some of the other seniors we've had who finished strong after not doing much earlier in their careers.

Would be nice to see him have a great final year after being buried on the depth chart like Corey Thompson, Deion Jones, Duke Riley, and before he got himself kicked off the team, Donnie Alexander.

Really pull for Jones. Fantastic character guy.
Hopefully he does well @ Jack.

He’s fallen on the depth chart because he:
1. Really wanted to play Mike. Wished it had worked out, but
2. He couldn’t play it well enough to start or back up Baskerville.
3. Even on the edge, he’s tended to overrun gap assignments and struggled with tackling technique.
