Are you trying to imply that LSU would still have a football team without a university?

I am not "implying" anything.

I am SAYING that just as LSU weeded out the obvious bad apples from the team itself, perhaps it's time to do some of the same inside the SS.

If a group of people can't handle themselves in public, perhaps they shouldn't be given the opportunity.

As of now, they're taking your stupid little songs away. If it continues, don't be so shocked when they start taking your seats, as well.

Because the truth is- you are the one being naive if you think it's about you. You may learn this the hard way if you become a liability and stand between the university and the almighty dollar.

Want to guess who win will that arguement?

I have been around since '79. The chancellor made the band stop playing Tiger Rag after the SS attached "a-hole, a-hole" to the end when it was heard on national TV.

The administration didn't even like the students laughing during that song - the part right before AH! AH!

The ironic thing is that the admission standards have gotten so much higher since the late 70's/early 80's when pretty much anyone with a high school diploma could work offshore over the summer and party at LSU for a semester or two until they got kicked out for bad grades. Those crowds were as rowdy or rowdier than the current student body but the cursing and profanity didn't exist beyond yelling BS at the ref. You would think the "smarter" student body would have higher standards as to what is acceptable in public, but they don't.

Do guys still take a date to the games? What the hell does your date do when you're chanting about sucking a dick? What self-respecting girl would put up with that or, worse, take part in it?

I'll take the easy way out and blame the Internet and the ease with which young people can find and view things that most people didn't even know existed back in the day. That's why young people think yelling about sucking a dick in public is funny and not a big deal.

It is a big deal. I'm all for ejecting people and making them meet with the Dean of Students to get their IDs back and notifying their parents.

I missed Neck Saturday. I'm all for the band playing it and having anyone who it caught using profanity during the playing of it kicked out and their id taken along with their season ticket package. You won't be able to catch everyone, but if a good portion of them get kicked out, their behavior will eventually change. LSU has a waiting list a mile long of people who would gladly take their seat.

Well at least we're not acting like a SWAC school.....glad it got taken away. We should respect ourselves more than that.

They don't have to eject everyone. They could make an example of a chosen number. I don't know, a couple of hundred.

Word would get out quick and the profanity would stop. IF I had a kid that chanted that, his or her mouth would be washed out with bleach to clean that dirty mouth.

Seriously, there would be hell to pay.

I went to the LSU/Northwestern St basketball game recently. The band played "Neck" and the student section became an interesting study in mob mentality.

The chant started as normal "Heeeeyyyy - Oooooooo" and was followed by a garbled, sheepish chant. (You could almost see the wheels spinning realizing that there would be some accountability with such a small group.) Next line, "Heeeeeyyyy- Ooooooooo" ....."Talkin out the side of your neck!!"

The band played it two more times in the course of the game and it remained vulgar free. It was kinda like watching a curtain being pulled back on an internet tough guy.

Hmm..It was either Northwestern or Nicholls, but I distinctly heard "suck that tiger dick" from the student section during one of those games. My seats are one section from the Student section, so it was pretty clear what they were saying. infuriated me since I bring my little girls to the basketball games. Guess some of you geniuses will next tell me that a college basketball game is no place to bring my family if we don't like the vulgarity?

I think a letter by the team and coach miles would help.

I hate to see the Neck go.

The student section is kinda like your meth'd-out cousin. You love him because he's family and he gives you street cred; but most of the time he just embarasses the shite out of you.

You are living in a dream world I you think a letter would do anything. To all these people saying kickout sections of the SS for cursing. Have you ever heard the profanity around the rest of the stadium.

The profanity around the rest of the stadium isn't organized profanity as is the SS.

It isn't impossible. It is impractical. The university can and will take away privilege from anyone who they believe abuses it. They are the ones who define abuse. Not the fans.

It's fairy easy to kick out anyone caught abusing their privilege as a fan, it is impractical in actually stopping the activity however. You can only catch so many individuals.

I've talked to someone in the AD about it and his words were "there is no defense of the language used" by the student section.

That just about says it all.

Guess we'll see if the AD decides to act upon it other than banning songs.
