Has the Defensive Line gotten better or worse since Orgeron came on staff?

As both the DL coach and then the head coach. His focus is Defense Line. Is it better or worse since he came to LSU?

Just wondering what people think. Much of that has to do with talent, but he's been in charge of talent for a while. It seems like DL used to be a real strength. Is is still? Or, do we just need more depth there?

I mean DL recruiting was really bad before O got here.

2016 was a great year

Every year since has been meh.

And the DL play hasn’t been great for a while.

Its about the same if you're going off of the end of the Brick era. Way down from where it had been previously.

The DLine was the weakest area of the defense by far. Was not up to our standards, and hasn't been for a while. Can't blame lack of talent here either.

Also, 3-4 Dline doesn't usually get a lot of credit like a 4-3 does.

I saw a list of 25 Recruits that are not committed and only one was a DL. There were 2 OT's and one OG. The kids available are not there!!

BATON ROUGE - LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron will be adding recruiting coordinator to his job title and will be getting a significant raise, a member of LSU's football coaching staff confirmed to Gannett Louisiana on Saturday night.

Hired by LSU head coach Les Miles in January of 2015 as a defensive line coach, Orgeron also served as recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson's right hand man throughout the year and up until Wilson left LSU in mid-January of 2016"

This entire defensive line is on Captain Orgeron. Both the recruitment and the development.

It’s the difference in a 4-3 and 3-4 defense. Not sure how some don’t understand this. 4-3 defense needs pressure from the line. 3-4 defense needs pressure from the linebackers.

Yep it's on the outside linebackers and sometimes aranda would blitz white.

Klavon injury killed us.
Also being the recruiting coordinator doesn't mean you get to pick the players lol

About the same.

The DL 2014 class was a bust. I think it had 4-5 DL.

After that, we were plugging freshmen and the like into the breech with no rest.

If only that were true. There are too many teams that run a 3-4 who manage pressure from the DL. It’s not about scheme, it’s a development issue.

A 3-4 depends on pressure from 1 OLB not all. You still needs to get pressure from your ends in a 3-4. We don’t really get that

The 3-4 defense you have 5 OL to block 3DL. Not quite fair. But you'e mixing up or disguising who that 4th rusher will be. Therefore most sacks or pressure will come from the LB's or corners or safeties! Poor big men get double teamed on every down.

The 3 down linemen are supposed to draw double teams to allow the lb'ers to make plays. If your NG can't draw a double team, then the guard immediately gets to lb and it puts a huge burden on the lb'ers and the run defense will suffer. That is what happened against Florida, the d-line (especially in the second half) got whipped and o-line was getting to lb'ers immediately and they gashed LSU running it.

Oh yeah but he was brought into the 2015 recruiting cycle pretty late.

After that it’s allnon him .

Tyler Sheldon was our last 5* DL

Some big time recruits, but switched to a 3-4 and haven't found the right mix of guys since really.

Got to remember chavis liked speed over size.

Gotten worse since Ed has been here.

We don't stop the run very well, and when we rush 3 out D-lineman could not catch a cold. Going into the year our defense was to be our strong point, but we were mediocre at best. Not a shut down D.
