In a previous game at the post game press conference, CLM saud he had no idea what the record was nor how close LF7 was to breaking it. Claims he gave no thought to it at all.

I would say that's probably true. On the final drive LSU got the ball up 10 with just under 2:00 to go. SU I think had 2 TOs remaining. Yes, it would have been hard for SU to come back, but stranger things have happened. Obviously Miles knew he was going to run the football, so he probably went with the back he trusted most, Fournette. In that situation the only thing that gives SU a chance is a fumble.

The first carry picked up 5 yards and SU called a TO. Certainly the next play was going to be a run regardless of the back. Mile stuck with LF because he, I'm sure, is the guy he trust most in terms of ball security. LF just happen to bust a run for 30 yards. At that point (about 1:30 on the clock), LSU didn't need to run another play to "secure" victory.

I don't think final carries were an effort to pad LF's stats, as much as Miles just didn't want to turn the ball over. It just so happened that LF tacked on another 35 yards to his total

I don't want The Franchise carrying the ball in a meaningless situation just to break a school record. I get that you can't play the game being afraid of injury but in that situation you don't even chance it. There is a much bigger picture here than the single game rushing record.

Matt Mauch got hurt at the swamp, with a 30 point lead. Little Nich was the coach.

Ignorant wlemoine50 - It's Matt Mauck. Get it straight. AND LSU was not up 30. You need a timeout.

Why give him the ball to start the drive only to take a knee after that? It kind of pissed me off honestly

Because we needed a first down to ice the game. Les went to victory formation so that LSU wouldn't score.

I am trusting the coach on this decision. We have had two games in a row he had to sit out a play or too due to pain, we don't know everything

This was what Leonard Fournette said about it-
A smiling Fournette held court on the field after the game. He laughed and joked around. The 230-pounder said he didn’t realize how close he was to the single-game rushing mark — and he didn’t care, either.

“That doesn’t bother me. If it comes later down the line, it comes,” he said.

Buga's media skills are legit. Dude always says the right things.

I think had the team not committed so many penalties (whether or not you like Ritter, many of our penalties were legit) then Les may have let him break the record that game. I think because the team had so many penalties and knows they all are pulling for LF7, he didn't want to allow LF7 break the record in a game where the team overall had so many penalties.

Tell you what I think. I think with Fournette having nine letters in his last name Miles didn't want him breaking the record in the NINTH month of the year. Didn't think of THAT did you?

Now...if was against a Petrino or Tuberville team, fake the knee and pitch if for another TD

I really do think some good old animosity was developing between CLM and Petrino that would have been very helpful towards motivating LSU to play better against Arky. That all got messed up because Bobby wouldnt pay for his girlfriend with his own money.

the only record that should be on coaches mind is the won/loss record. Any other record should never be a consideration of the coaches. If a player set a record of some sort, good for him, but it should never play a role for the coaches. Whether it's a school record, SEC record or NCAA record doesn't matter. I don't care if he is 2 yards short of the all time NCAA rushing record.

Syracuse was all class, no need to do this on their field.I doubt if LSU realized this but even if they did that's their decision. I have no problem either way. If he had gotten hurt on that play, this place would've melted and our season along with it. No need to be greedy play it str8 up. Leonard will break that record in all probability maybe even this week. And then re-break it in the Natty.

I think SU still had timeouts. We ran the ball and then when we saw their coach was not gonna attempt to stop the clock, we kneeled.

He's going to break the record eventually. Who cares?

Win the game and get out of there.

And have a Good Day. Try to smile and do a good deed for someone today. It'll make you feel better.

Ben Wilkerson blew out his knee on the final play of the game I think. Of a blowout. He wasn't ever the same. The announcers were total tools, but I completely agree with their in game rant about keeping him in at the end of the game.
