Katz played all over in high school before settling at third for most of his senior year.
to be fair to the guy, he's jumped over his whole career. not that he would use this as an excuse, but it can't be an easy thing to jump from the left side of the infield to the right side of the infield to outfield over the course of a few seasons. once he gets settled in at second or wherever a minor league team puts him, i wouldn't be surprised if his fielding percentage went up.
also, his fielding percentage isn't even that bad. 7 errors on the year. give me a break.

What happened is they both started contributing as outfielders and they both predominantly played first.
Katz is getting it done, but his glove and fielding ability is far from sharp.

where are y'all getting this from? Bregman's fielding percentage is .947 and Taco's is even worse. Katz is sitting at .987.
Aaron Hill, in comparison, had a .957 his last season at LSU. their offensive numbers are fairly comparable, too, outside of strikeouts.

And what do you think that means? If a guy jumps around that much it's because he is not the clear cut best fielder at any position, but his bat is too valuable and he is good enough to get it done in the field. This was the case at Jesuit, what do you think that means at the premiere program in the nation? Let's be honest. Ideally this kid is our dh. This does not translate to a sharp glove or some of these other comments.
The kid is a a very good ball player and a passionate tiger. I'm just being realistic here.

Ok dude.....put Katz at ss and let's see his fielding percentage. It is hard to get charged with an error at 1st base.

he's not a shortstop. he doesn't have that kind of range. so that's just a ridiculous statement. at the positions he played throughout the season, he did very well.

So why compare him to bregman and Aaron hill who both played ss at lsu assclown?

Ideally raph rhymes is our DH. Guy doesn't belong in the OF with the speed and talent we have on our bench. McMullen would be a noticeable defensive improvement over Rhymes.
But PM made the same deal with Rhymes that he made with Dean, so Rhymes is a guaranteed started in the outfield.

Katz has had numerous solid digs and stops at first. I have no idea where some of you got the idea he wasn't at least a decent 1st baseman. He's no middle infielder but does he have to be? No. He can play first just fine and he's a great hitter.

so if he is getting it done, that would mean that he isn't a liability

he compares to other first baseman just as favorably

Katz is a liability in the field at a top caliber program. He has done the job though and with his bat the way it is, that's all that matters. Let's not get crazy though. Katz is one of the worst fielders on the team.
Truth be told: You're spoiled. We set a school (and if I'm not mistaken SEC) record for fielding percentage. Katz is a beast in the field and usually people complain that he doesn't all star plays with balls that have no business of even being knocked down.

Leave it to the rant to take someone asking "Has Katz played 3rd in any game at LSU" and turn it into a bashing of one of our best players. I'm so fricking tired to you johnny come lately fans. Katz is a fricking monster.

Someone should define liability for easy money

Well, according to those stats, McMullen >>>>>>>>> Katz in the field.

He has handled the ball over 500 times and made 7 errors. How can you say he's a liability? Best fielding % in the infield!
Posted on 5/28/13 at 10:42 pm to Meauxjeaux
McMullen is perfect in the outfield but he's only handled the pall 16 times!
Posted on 5/28/13 at 10:49 pm to LSU FAMILY
Any 1st basemen will have the best fielding percentage in the infield. It is not ideal to have a 5'9" first baseman, but it seems we have one every year. he obviously has gotten it done, but the whole point was people were asking if can play 3rd and talking about his versatility and he plays 1st base for a reason people.

I guess Ralph rhymes is our best outfielder because he's made no errors?
