Wow.

So which is it? He's one of the worst fielders or a very good ball player?

He was recruited for his bat. He did not have a real defensive position. He was pretty otrocious as an outfielder his first 2 and a half seasons at lsu. He's found a home at first and has developed into a good fit for our team this year. This was unexpected otherwise he would have been doing this earlier in his career.

Where in there does it say lsu is not a premiere program? His bat is so legit it makes up for the rest. That's why he is on lsu?

Your posts have been very valuable. Your insight has been most useful. Thanks.

I would have liked to see lsu get his high school teammate bubby Riley from Delgado

Played on the same team at Jesuit. Both he and Luke Voiron (catcher at Delgado/Jesuit) are going to NC State next year

I quoted what you said about he would be a liability at a top tier program! There again brushing over your own comment

Bottom line is to answer the OP's question. I don't recall Katz ever playing 3rd. Hanover was always there.

Overall, he's a good ball player. He's at lsu. He is an elite hitter. His fielding ability is lacking, but now he plays first base which a guy of his athletic ability can handle pretty well.

Apparently the overall rant consensus is that he is a very good fielder. I don't believe that. He has done well this year at 1st base. Not everyone will agree. A lot of my words here have been turned around. You can believe what you want, but if this kid wasn't a lights out hitter, he wouldn't be at lsu. And because he has continued to be one of our best hitters he has had a lot of opportunities to play some different positions and we have found one that works. His overall game in high school did not earn him a scholly his bat did.

Luke was great. I didn't realize that he was also headed to nc state.

I heard some talk about landing Riley and i'm pretty sure he would have been a tiger if he could have been. It seems like it would have been a good time to add an outfielder with his overall game.

I haven't kept up with Luke. I didn't even realize he was at Delgado. He was really talented.

Luke was always a great defensive catcher. Really improved his hitting at Delgado

I've been scouting more in Texas these past couple of years so I haven't been as in touch. I expected Delgado to run that Juco postseason. That was disappointing.

Could've won it all. A lot of Jesuit kids. Were ranked #1 when they went down

SEC All-Defensive Team: Mason Katz and Christian Ibarra

Guess that kills the argument for the OP

Katz is a liability in the field at a top caliber program. He has done the job though and with his bat the way it is, that's all that matters. Let's not get crazy though. Katz is one of the worst fielders on the team.
