I think they are trying to bring him along slowly to avoid overwhelming him, but I don’t know how you keep him off the field

he reminds me of how we utilized marcel brooks in 2019 - speed off the edge

I miss marcel brooks a lot - he ended up going to TCU and playing WR

He looked like Vonn Miller out there vs Moo St.

Love it, use him in those types of packages and keep his energy level on FULL....

It's pretty clear to me that he is already one of the best players on defense. He is one of the most versatile defensive players we have. He is just like Micah Parsons -- can cover, play the run, and is an excellent pass rusher as well. Always in on the play.

Yes, he should be starting.

You can just tell he's "different" out there. Speed and explosiveness, instincts, and strength. He's got 1st round draft pick written all over him. Also brings a swag energy to the unit that I think helps.

I get that he probably doesn't know the scheme as well as experienced guys, but I think you'll see him playing more and more.

He will get tons of reps vs. New Mexico to set him up for the rest of the year. Starting by Tennessee.

Perkins is easily the best LB we have outside of BJ.

Is it a stretch to say that Perkins is the most physically gifted LB LSU has ever had on the field? Dude is a true freshman and is built like devin white right now on the bucs

Edit: forgot to mention he is 18 years old somehow

He's like 50 lbs lighter than DW. And DW was even heavier than he is now when he started out at LSU.

After watching M. Jones out there at LB then Perkins you have got to keep perkins out there from here on. I'm sure he will miss some gaps and maybe some pass coverages this guy is going to be special though. Let him start the rest of the year at LB.

I think starting spots on defense are a little over stated. Guys play a ton even if they don't start.

Perkins isn't the 220 he's listed at, either.

This. They brought in Perkins a lot after 1st down once it became clear MSU was going to pass.

It will be interesting to see how they use him going forward. MSU is a pass first team. They are last in the SEC in attempts. That makes it easier for a true freshman because he can largely just focus on rushing the passer. Teams that are more balanced will be tougher for him because he will be forced to read and react more than he did vs. a team you know is going to throw the ball 75%-80% of the time.
