10 Years ago, Dave Wannstedt used all of the power in his mustache to defeat the #2 West Virginia Mountaineers, propelling LSU to the Title game.

Here's to you, Dave!

That wasn’t the only game that LSU needed to go their way that night. Better thank big game Bob also

I literally had a list of what needed to happen for us to get in and checked them off as the day went on.

I'd bought $5 ticket reserves and ended up with championship game tickets for face value plus $15 per ticket.

Who was the dude who ran the numbers of what needed to happen?? I'd recognize his screen name but can't remember it.

Wait -- it was lsumatt that broke it down!!

Don't forget about the crutch too. I remember him hobbling around on the one crutch on the sidelines. The Stache had special powers that day.

Miles owes Wannstedt millions of dollars, because that Pitt win bought him a BCS Championship and many more years as LSU head coach.

I completely agree with your post but the reason this win is celebrated is the low probability that it happens. Oklahoma was going to win that game pretty much no question asked. I know Mizzou was #1 but they weren’t winning that game.

Agreed and the equally low probability of the 2011 upset that shall not be named is why it is so despised and a true moment of sorrow for LSU fans.

But we’re never in that position if not for good ol’ Wannstache.

Not only that, he got an automatic giant salary boost.

I remember that day well. Could not believe how everything that day fell into place.

Let's take a look at the Top 5 on Dec. 1, 2007:

Oklahoma beating #1 Missouri in the BXII Championship was like the lock of the day...

even though MIZZOU was #1 I seem to remember everyone saying Oklahoma had that game... and the Sooners eventually took care of Tigers 38-17... OU dominated the 2nd half 24-3 after the game was tied 14-14 at halftime.

obviously we all know what happened to #2 WVU (#WannstedtDay)

#3 was Ohio State... who did what they needed to in order to get to NOLA

#4 was Georgia... who obviously was off since they lost the tiebreaker for the SEC East title to Tennessee (unranked UT beat #12 UGA 35-14 on Rocky Top on 10/6/07)

#5 LSU getting the win over #12 Tennessee in the SEC Championship Game is what propelled them to NOLA over MIZZOU (L), WVU (L), & UGA (bye)

ETA: I think OSU had been off since Nov. 17 and had clinched the B1G Championship without a title game at the time

And Gundy owes Les for not only hiring his arse but for not making the title game eventually leading to the losing streak and his firing instead of being the GOAT.

I wouldn't say it was entirely Gundy's fault. That game had massive extraneous circumstances that the voters astonishingly turned a blind eye to.

It took more than their win. Missouri had to take out OU as well which allowed 2 loss les to back into the NCG.
