Can't really see what's going on in that video either. Maybe the BYU player initiated a punch or was more flagrant than what Haulcey did in retaliation.

The bigger takeaway is that the BYU player, who was also ejected, was suspended for the 1st half of the next game.

That said, the OP says Cooley is "good to go" for Clemson. He was also ejected in NC State's bowl game along with other NC State players. Those NC State players are sitting out the 1st half of their game this week. So the question is why doesn't that apply to Cooley?

I just looked that he definitely did. To be fair, the guy behind him ran into him and aggressively knocked him off balance after the guy he pushed was basically leaning on him to get off his QB. What Hulcey did was dumb but it was in retaliation to getting aggressively pushed nearly to the ground.

It's sports. I've seen much worse. He threw a coupe nothingburger punches and recollected himself. Didn't even really hit the guy looked like.

This is so dumb. Just let the guys play. Wasn't like he punched the dude in the head or ripped his helmet off then punched him.

all in the ruling

Cooley was ejected for "unsportsmanlike conduct" the others for "fighting"

fighting carries over to next game, unsportsmanlike does not.

allegedly, LSU has gotten this confirmed by the NCAA and Cooley is cleared to play the entire game.

Haulcy was ejected for "unsportsmanlike conduct" during their game.
the question for him right now is: Did the NCAA upgrade it to fighting at some point after the game?

I don't think LSU has gotten a clear answer on that from the NCAA yet or it seems like we would already know the verdict.

Right, I researched the situation and never saw it reported or classified as "fighting" contemporaneous to the incident. If anyone has it on authority it was upgraded to fighting in the intervening months, feel free to share the source.

This is so dumb we even have to talk about this. Haulcey retaliated after someone threw their entire body weight into him to put him on the ground knocking him off balance. What player is not going to retaliate to this? He wasn't even tossing haymakers. 2 quick swings that looked like they didn't even connect on the player's shoulders. Nothingburger. Definitely not the definition of "fighting" especially since he realized, recollected himself, and stepped away despite others trying to escalate. What he did was dumb but hardly fighting. If they didn't see it as fighting why should we? Screw the NCAA and their overbearing monitoring. The SEC and Big Ten run NCAA now better make nice with the conferences before they dissolve you! Just another organization unwilling to lose power because money is involved.

The guy who threw his weight into Haulcey escalated things as well. He didn't quit on Haulcey he punched a dude's helmet well after it was over that might be why he got ejected for the next game. Don't know if they escalated him to "fighting" or if he was just serving the suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Seems like it wasn’t even on the table before today. Somebody likely tipped off the NCAA earlier this week.

Absolutely. frick them and the Big 12.

What is the NCAA gonna do? Make us vacate the win? It’s up to the CFB Playoff committee to decide what matters for the playoffs anyway.

I do think Clem's Son had something to do with raising this "issue" right before the game. Dabo practicing some gamesmanship.

Because something called a "David Hood" reported it on X and to NCAA. Covers Clemson apparently, definitely never had sex.

The BYU vs. UH box score shows Haulcy was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.
